    Express hiss no biggie

My 5:25 has no more hiss than any other tube amp I have ever owned or used in 30 years. It seems entirely normal and appropriate to me.

    Reverb Tank Repair Parts

I the guitar world nobody that I know of stocks replacement parts for reverb tanks because it's just not cost effective when replacement tanks are cheap and easy to install. Your best bet is the major electronic components suppliers, e.g. RS, Farnell, Mouser, Newark etc.

    Anyone know this grille jute?

Because of the diagonals in the weave that looks more like a tweed used to cover amplifiers more than it looks like jute. Most grill cloth materials have no diagonals to them at all. The closest actual grill cloth with similar diagonals I can find is this Fender style brown, but that definitely...

Reverb "adds" an e.q on the channel

I found this thread while researching because my Express 5:25 does a similar same thing. With the reverb knob set to 9 o'clock it's an unusable, huge mid scoop, like there's a phase issue. The reverb then sounds fine from 10:30 - 12 o'clock, but turning it up higher doesn't add more reverb, just...

Where can I find fuses for a Mesa Boogie Mark IVB?

I would not simply replace the fuse and continue troubleshooting yourself. Fuses should never blow on their own accord. Always assume a blown fuse is indicative of fault and something somewhere needs to be diagnosed and replaced. An experienced amp tech can do that without risking further damage...

    Famous Mesa Boogie Player Pictures

Dominic Miller has been playing with Sting since the 90s. His main choice for most of that was a pair of Lone Stars, though he used a pair of Express 5:25s for a tour back in 2012 (part of the reason I bought one).

    Famous Mesa Boogie Player Pictures

Steve Lukather was a Boogie dude in the 80s. Mark II C+ I think. This Star Licks video was recorded in 1984.

    Famous Mesa Boogie Player Pictures

Vernon Reid of Living Colour has been a Boogie dude for 30+ years. Mostly rectifiers and a Lone Star on occasion.

Express 5:50 5W Mode Quiet and Distorted

Send me private message here with your email address and I'll email the schematic I have to you. I'd start by verifying the voltages. That will help you figure out what part of teh circuit to look at,.

Express 5:50 5W Mode Quiet and Distorted

Email Mesa and give them your serial number. They can send you the appropriate schematic and maybe give you advice on what to check. The power section itself isn't too complicated but finding/accessing the components may be some work.

Bass overdrive "crack" rumble on Clean. Feature or Faulty?

My first guess would be a loose component somewhere that rapidly connects and disconnects when you hit the big low note. If that's due to a cracked solder joint it could be impossible to find but there's more obvious things to go after first. First do a tap test tap on each tube. If you get...

What were the amps you've owned leading to what you have now

Oddly, it's the amp I never had that brought me to Mesa! In my earliest years (early 90s) I had a Crate combo, then a Fender Performer 1000 (holy loud, Batman!), then in my 15 years of gigging I used smaller Laney combos (EL84s, British voiced, 10" Celestion speakers). Coming to the end of the...

HELP!! Express 5:25 Contour is not working

The two JFETS, J175C1 and J175C2 are the possible culprits here. When they are faulty, the contour circuit won't work right. They are also easy to change without totally dismantling the amp. Easy and fast job for a tech. I just changed mine and now I hear what the contour is supposed to do!

Express 5:25 very unequal bias current on the EL84! need help

I have no expertise but I do know that tubes that are sold as matched may not be, and expecting up to a 10% difference seems reasonable. And once they go into an amplifier and start working, they can drift further out of whack too. Honestly, I have tried some A-B recordings of pairs of tubes...

What Black Shadow speaker is in the Express 5 25?

The Express 5:25 combo came in both 1x12 and 1x10 versions. The 1x12 had the V30. (I changed mine out for a V-type and finally settled on a Greenback for less bass and more treble).

    Express 5:25 Bright Cap Removal

The Express series and Stiletto series are completely different pre amp designs and voicings and there is no Marshall-style bright cap as such. The only caps connected directly to the gain controls are C4 (0.001 µF) for Ch2 and C16 (0.005 µF) for Ch1, directly from V2a, which (I think) is the...

    Attenuating Express 5 50

Yes it should be fine. Which suggests you should use the 50 watt rated attentuator for a 25 watt high gain.
