How important is the v1 preamp tube to a MK III's tone? I just got my hands on two drop dead mint 12AX7A's from an old jukebox: An RCA, and a Sylvania (I think, not 100% on that one...). Would I notice much difference in swapping one of those beauties in there? I'm away from the amp right now...

I've never had my III up loud enough to notice a loss of headroom, but what I did notice is that the reverb scoops mids. It's enough for me to not use the built in reverb. Good to know I'm not the only one with strange reverb experiences with this amp :lol:

Has anybody added an adjustable bias to these amps? Google is no help in this case... I just got a 395 with nearly brand new JJ tubes all around pulling... Wait for it... 3mA of current... So needless to say, that's gotta change. I'd like to install just a single bias pot to bring everything up...
