Got a LPJ for a nice price!

    My "new" Mark iii

That whole story rocks! 8) The phone call to Boogie for a quote is free, so that's where I would start. Give 'em a shout and see how they can easily bring this beauty back to original condition. Congrats!

    what are the fillmore speakers?

The English V30 is integral to many of the quintessential Boogie tones and has been for years. No one here can deny that fact. So imagine the management meeting at M/B when Celestion announced moving production for nearly their entire product line to China? We as Boogie-philes are a discerning...

2x12 Mesa cab to match 5:50+ head

Not all V30 loaded 2x12 cabs are the same, obviously. The Orange, the PRS 2x12 Pine (my current fav), Boogie 2x12 horiz. Recto, and Boogie 2x12 vert all have completely different vibes and sound like they have different speakers. Granted, the Boogies' V30 are the English versions and all the...

    Your Mark III settings

Heh! To specify, the GEQ was NOT used.

    Your Mark III settings

Here's a recently gigged cranked class A setup. This was in a medium-sized bar, thru a 1x12 (WGS ET65) with the other guitarist playing a Heartbreaker + 4x12. Despite the rather high bass setting, it worked really well.

AlNiCo Speakers? WGS or Jensen, other suggestions?

I'm a huge WGS fan. Best bang-for-the-buck out there with great sounding options. When I snapped and went on a 'Boogie tone overhaul' binge, I first replaced the EV12L with an ET65 after a lot of research. Though I wasn't immediately convinced that it would sound fantastic throughout my volume...

    Anybody Roll Without OD Pedals?

I didn't use anything in front of my amps for decades, then one day, I woke up and found myself playing in a new venture needing a variety of sounds that didn't come naturally to the MkIII. So should I buy a new amp and kick the MkIII to the curb? NO! I looked into quality pedals that would...

    Cleans: Better through a 2x12 or 4x12?

+1 Half-back cabs are wonderful for this flexibility.

What is this mod on my Mark III???

+1! Sight unseen, the pot is probably a ch2 volume mod. But without gut shots, we can't make further smart-a$$ed commentary. ;)

    Clean boost pedals

Or get the TS-9 modded. The Keeley TS-9 Mod Plus expands the gain range in both directions, lowers noise considerably, and is better suited as a "cleaner" boost than the stock version. I use one with an Xotic EP Booster in front if it, both in front of the amp with great success. Those are 2 of...

Fender sounds on all 3 channels out of a MK3?

IMO, it's do-able. Just keep in the back of your mind that this amp was designed to take the Fender concept and run as far away from it as possible...and you're backing up a few steps. A 'Fender-ish' vibe may be all you can get from ch3, but ch1 and ch2 should be pretty easy. Clarification: Is...

Road ready EV 4X12 cabinet - what year?

I have both an '89 and '91 2x12 halfbacks and your 4x12 looks more like the '91. Outlined logo and multi-plug input tells the story. The '89 has solid logo and single input jack. Yours looks awesome! 8)

Preferred EL34s for the Mark III?

Yeah, mine did too. Immediately put Mesa EL34s in and never looked back. At 25W, my green stripe's A mode sounds great cranked and has been a predominant setup for me over the past several years at viable bar-gig levels. Keeping it in ch1 and using dirt pedals yields a whole new Boogie experience.

    The Mark III is awesome

It's a process of trial-n-error, unfortunately. Since this is SO subjective, you grab a few reasonably priced options (I went with as big of a tonal difference as possible...Tung Sol to RFT with a few in between) and give them a try. As for where to find RFT 12ax7s/ECC85s, I got mine on eBay...

    The Mark III is awesome

Yeah, I used my MkIII heavily in both a true classic rock and a more modern "classic" rock gigs with great success. The C90 loaded vert 2x12 cabs were awesome once I closed the top. Played in class A mode exclusively, too. I've bounced between an NOS RFT, NOS gray plate RCA, SPAX and new Tung...

Rare 1981 "Boogie logo" 4x12 eminence MS12 metal grill

They were called the "half-back" cabinets. From the factory they came closed bottom and open top for the 2x12s and I believe closed top for the 4x12s. The board to close the 2x12 was a special order. Mine were loaded with C90s in the top and EV12L in the bottom. And yes, the 2x12s are heavy...

Mk iii Combo ------Larry Carlton settings.

I used a completely different cab and speakers, but one of my favorite ES-335 settings looked similar: But the one that gave me the most headroom and punch involved keeping V1 at 4 and Master dime'd...while in class A mode only.
