Mesa Boogie MKIII limited Edition resoration....

Are there any unique attributes of the amp, itself, for the special edition? I really don't remember them making this, but back in the day, news of special builds moved slowly. And if you didn't have a store to visit (basically, Hollywood or Petaluma) you didn't ever learn of it. My local...

    1960 A 4 ohm cab

A 1960 cab should be 16ohms, so if it's 4ohms total, it has been rewired. If you bought it used and aren't sure, I'd open it and confirm both the speaker impedance and the wiring scheme. Then you can connect it to your amp armed with real knowledge.

    MC90's in a Rectifier 2x12 Cab?

Yes. I have two of 'em. Even with 2 C90s it sounds fantastic, open or closed top (but I prefer closed).

So what exactly is a "pro-quality" effects loop effect?

I've run 40' of cable for the loop without any serious degradation. Don't fret the cable length. Matching a specific effect to a specific amp's loop is always a chore. Much of it is trial and error, honestly. It's about matching level, impedance, etc. and much of that info isn't published. The...

New member with Mark III blue stripe

That's more likely due to the pedal(s). My Strymon pedals work well as does the Carbon Copy. Vintage MXR Flanger is horrible for tone suck.

EL34 - Does this homogenize the sound of Ch.2 and Ch.3?

A bazillion Simul-Class amps with EL34s can't be ignored. It just depends in your taste. If you don't lean toward the modern metal genre, the EL34s are a preference...at least to me. I like a looser bottom-end because it increases cone excursion and the cool associated growl.

EVH 5150 III 50w amp head

I demo'ed one for several hours and was knocked out! That scooped tone couldn't be dialed out, but it really was fantastic. Touch sensitive and responsive when setup properly. But there's no Boogie feel or tone to be found...completely different animal.

    Vintage 2x12 Halfback

If you have to take power tools to the cab you can't be worried about resale value. Make sure there's still a piece of rock wool insulation in the bottom section. That takes the boxy tone out of the cab.

    Speaker suggestion for IIC+?

Brad, you've stumbled into the Boogie pit of doom! Once you fall in, the slippery slopes of options and accessories keep you tumbling back down to the bottom. :D Over the past 25 years or so, I've reformatted my MkIII from combo to rack mount to head-only and swapped speakers dozens of...

Pics of Pentode vs. Triode wiring?

Unless I'm completely crazy, that looks like triode to me, making that a blue stripe. The big carbon resistor is the screen grid resistor, between pins 3 and 4, which tells the story. Hellova find, there Brad. Good power tubes - especially EL34s - and a preamp cocktail will give you years of...

    Vintage 2x12 Halfback

Congrats on the success! FYI, the '90s era jack plate can also be used in a stereo config. You'll have to cut a bigger opening for the plate, but it works.

    MARK III SERIAL NUMBERS

The serial number certainly strays into the blue territory. Is it stamped into the chassis or a sticker? There are so many examples of "exceptions" to the S/N rules. Price-wise, there's no difference so if it's a good deal, don't let the stripe influence you. Once you have it, if you just gotta...

    Mark iii volume drop

Does it do the same thing using the front panel switches?

    Mark iii volume drop

Disconnect all cables and external switches and switch channels with the front panel controls only. If the volume drop isn't there, the problem is probably a bad external switch.

How are you switching channels, foot switch or front panel?

    Mark Series Head Cabs

I don't see that as a scam attempt as it is unadulterated gall. Some people have amazingly huge balls because they're protected by the Internet, so either ignore them or tell them to get bent. Wow... My gts shell was found second-hand (for sale next to the hen's teeth and unicorn horn...

    Speaker suggestions in general

I like the WGS ET-65 in my MkIII. It now resides in its own 1x12 cab and mixes well with the EV12L with a fraction of the weight.

    Fender Dual Showman Reverb

During the Rivera-era of Fender in the mid '80s, they reissued the Twin as the Twin II in both a combo and a head version. I used to use that head with an old Showman 2x12 cab, like pictured...what a beast! The cab is huge! But the head was a very beefy 105W, so it comes pretty close to a...

    Tubes, heat and cooling fans

After 20+ years of zero problems with heat, outdoor gigs started taking their toll on my combo. Direct sun in 98F temp is going to push any amp to the breaking point. I'd put an umbrella over it, which helped, but it was the built-in fan that did the most good. M/B knew exactly what they were...
