Yellow Jackets in an Express 5:50?

I've not tried it but would also be intrested in hearing from someone who has. I wonder if you could run it with one yellow jacket and one 6L6 to get a blended tone of both tubes.

    Greetings! Need some help please

Sounds like a tube's gone microphonic to me. You might find it by tapping on each tube w/ the eraser end of a pencil until you find the one that makes noise when you hit it. You'll need to take the covers off the pre amp tubes first. But, it could also be a power tube so check them too.

What Features would you like to see in a future Express?

    My top three recomendations.

    First gig with my 5:25

I'm glad you like your new Express. I've had mine almost a year and I'm still love'n it. Although I have the 5:50, I've not used the 5 watt mode very much except for w/ the Blues Channel. To my ear I prefer the tone of the full power w/ the vol cut way back over the 5 watt mode especially on the...

    volume differences...

Good point... Which brings up another good point. This is the first Mesa I've owned but the suggested tone settings are much different than any amp I've ever played through. You don't just set them all at 12:00 and tweek from there. For example most people I've talked to say they never bring the...

    volume differences...

In my experience the Crunch is a little louder than the Clean channel. The Burn channel is quite a bit louder than the Blues channel. For example to compensate w/ the volume control on the guitar, if I had it on 10 w/ the Clean channel I'd put it on 8 w/ the Crunch channel. If it was on 10 in...

    Formerly Content 5:25 Owner

I feel a little silly comparing my Mesa Express to ice cream but figuratively speaking, I loved the "4 flavors of Chocolate" I got from the 5:25 but I went with the 5:50 because it gives you "vanilla, strawberry, as well as light and dark chocolate". OK, now I'm starting to get an ice cream head...

    Formerly Content 5:25 Owner

I owned a 5:25 for just 2 days before bringing it back and getting the 5:50. I really liked the sound of the 5:25 but as I told the salesman it was like having 4 very good flavors of chocolate ice cream. The 5:50 has more head room and better cleans.

    What's your favorite 6L6?

Hi Guys, I've had my 5:50 Express for almost a year now. It's the first Mesa I've ever owned and I love it. I play mostly Classic Rock & Blues in a cover band. I've ordered the Pre Amp "tone kit" from Doug's Tubes. Not that I dislike the tone as is but, I just wanted to see if I could tweek it a...

    What's up w/ #2 Channel

I've had my 5:50 for a few months now... I really love it! But what's up w/ #2 channel. To my ears it's kinda thin and lifeless. Sure it has more gain but, it seems like there's more highs & less bass. Is it voiced this way? Since I bought it (new) there's been two times I recall playing it...

    Another Contour question.

This should be a easy question to answer. I've owned my 5:50 for almost a month so I'm still in the Honeymoon stage. But, am I crazy? I thought the contour worked indepenantly between the 2 channels. In other words, if you step on the pedal and turn it on while on the burn channel you can...

What's your favorite way to boost vol. for solos?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah, I've had this amp less than a week and I haven't found the contour to be that useful so far. It would really be nice if the Mesa Express had a Vol. boost though. It seems like it would be awsome if the contour had a Vol. (boost) adjustment maybe somewhere on...

What's your favorite way to boost vol. for solos?

I absolutly love my new 5:50. But I'm trying to decide how I want to boost the vol. for solos. As I see it there are a few choices: #1 Use the Vol. knob on the guitar?, #2 Use a peddal (Vol. boost or an Eq), #3 Use the "other channel" on the amp. or #4 ??? I'd like to know how the rest of you do...
