    Question

Gotcha. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I also cover a wide variety which is why I thought the F50 would be ideal. But like I said after starting to play metal more an more I found that it could not keep up. I checked out the roadster and was pretty impressed but I think I want something a...

    Question

Great! Thanks for the reply. So basically you're saying that dirty wise they're not even in the same league. So, remember I have not had a chance to experience a Mark series first hand, would you say they're good for modern metal? Maybe even venturing into death metal a bit? I have been playing...

Thanks for replying but that doesn't really answer my question.

    Question

How does the Mark V high gain channels compare to the F-50's channel 2 with contour mode on? I sold my F-50 some months back and I am researching a new amp. Overall I like the Mesa tone and I absolutely loved the clean channel on my F-50. But I came to really dislike channel 2. When I played...

    Mesa Fixed bias...

I agree. If you already like the sound of your amp I would just keep the fixed bias. If you like to tweak things you could get a trim pot to adjust your bias. You could make the bias setting hotter and maybe get a better sound but you would also probably shorten the life of your tubes. Maybe...

    Logo Plates

+1 I have an F-50 head that came with no logo. They explained that they did this to keep the amp "stealth" so it would be judged more by tone than name but they sent me a logo free of charge.

    hot plate with f-50

A speaker is a resistive load. Period. Take your pick, 2 Ohms, 4 Ohms, 8 Ohms, 16 Ohms, etc, etc. The Weber, at least the MASS. just uses a speaker magnet not the whole speaker and since signal response is measured in volts your statement makes no sense, so I am not sure what your point is...

    hot plate with f-50

I actually use a Hotplate with my F50 with great results. My next amp I will try the Weber MASS. Here is a HUGE thread on a comparison a person performed. Informative if nothing else...

    Can the F-series do Metal/Metalcore?

Here is a clip someone posted of an F-30 with a boost in front of it. Someone else mentioned that it needs to sit higher in the mix but it sounds like it gets the job done. http://members.cox.net/blueguitars/f30bee_with_solo.mp3

    Can the F-series do Metal/Metalcore?

Cool. :) For some old school metal try contour mode on and setting the gain at about 2 O'clock, Treble at 1 - 2 O'clock, Mids at 8 O'clock, Bass at 9 - 10 O'clock. I have found that the Master Volume sweet spot is between 9:30 and 11 O'clock. Even with the Mids that low it will still cut...

    Can the F-series do Metal/Metalcore?

Yeah, those are definately not the words I would use to describe the F50's gain. If those are the kind of tones a person is looking for I would recommend any of the Rec series. I personally like the Single Rec myself. There are many great modern gain amps out there. I do not find the F50 bassy...

    Can the F-series do Metal/Metalcore?

IMHO my F50 can handle most metal sounds especially with an EQ in the loop. However I think it depends on what your definition of metal is? I can get older Metallica, Slayer, Priest, etc sounds with no problems. The F50 has as much if not more gain than the modded amps of those days. Also keep...
