So long and thanks for all the fish! Lonestar for sale

Maybe you should consider an Express 5:50 1X12 or even a 5:25. A lot lighter with great tone.

    Disapointed with the 5:50

Time will tell ... but I really don't think so. The Express is extremely attractive to the Blackface clean crowd, and opens up Mesa to a market they haven't been in before. I replaced my Twin with it because of the cleans, dual wattage, two channels and good crunch and blues. I don't even...

Lone Star Classic, Express 5:50 Comparison?

When I bought mine, Magdon Music, just outside Scranton, PA, had 5 Hilands in stock. I chose a 10 Top Black Cherry. If you want, give Jack Gretz a call there to see what they've got left. I bought my 5:50 there also. Where are you from? http://www.magdonmusic.com/index.html

Lone Star Classic, Express 5:50 Comparison?

Resonator: My Johnny Hiland has very quickly become my favorite guitar. Personally ... I would buy the Hiland before another amp.

Lone Star Classic, Express 5:50 Comparison?

Resonator: I think I compared them at 50 watts at a little louder than basement level. However, what I will say is that at what I consider basement level, my 5;50 sounds better at 5 watts than it does at 50 watts turned down, which should be expected. Once the volume goes up the 50 watts...

Lone Star Classic, Express 5:50 Comparison?

I replaced my Twin with an Express 5:50 2X12 and also play mostly clean or crunch. Since I only play in my basement, I never would have bought an LSC, although I did compare them when I purchased the 5:50. I play in the 5 watt mode 90% of the time. As a clean player for 46 years, my opinion...

    New PRS SC250

If you are a high gain player the SC250 is about as hot as it gets from PRS. I'm not. I got to try the new SC245 last week and really liked the sound ... very classic LP. I would go so far as to say if you closed your eyes, you would think you were playing an LP Standard. SC245 may be my...

    Express 5:50 review

This is why they make vanilla and chocolate. I have the 2X12 version and love the clean, crunch, and blues, but rarely use the burn mode. The 5:50 replaced my Twin, so I'm coming from the opposite direction as you ... definately not high gain. The guitar can make a significant difference...

Express 5:50 w/ THD hot plate question

I can't understand what your problem is also. In the 5 watt mode I have the volume at about 8 oclock and the gain at about 10 oclock and it works fine for home.

anyone buy5:50 head version? or have head shell for it?

Magdon Music in Scranton, PA had an Express 5:50 head there when I bought my 5:50 2X12 about a month ago ... so they are out.

Stiletto Stage 2 vs. Express 5:50

jamme61: Starting with the 2007 model the LSC offers the 10/50/100 watt modes and the LSS offers the 5/15/30 watt modes. I only play at home, so I use the 5 watt mode 95% of the time with my 5:50 2X12. I was comparing the 5:50 to my Twin that I was replacing, so I didn't even try the LSC...

Stiletto Stage 2 vs. Express 5:50

Rabies: I have an Express 5:50 2X12 ... and love it. However, It is a 6L6 amp and I play mostly clean, crunch, and blues. I use the 5 watt mode 95% of the time. Others have posted that if you are looking for a British/Marshall tone, or heavy metal sound that the 5:25 is a better bet. If...

Local dealer tells me not to buy a Boogie!

My amp tech services and mods for bands from all over the country. I trust him implicently because he deals with all the brands. When i asked him what he felt was the highest quality amp to get, without hesitation, he told me to get a Mesa. He felt they used the best parts, PCBs, and were put...

Please help me find my first Mesa

Guess I'm too late to recommend you at least try the new Mesa Express 5:50 1X12 while you are there. It is 5 watts or 50 watts, works great in your base ment and flip a switch and you can play out. It is $1,199. I'm extremely happy with my 2X12 version ... but I don't use a lot of gain. Just...

    Post removed.

See ... it's always better to try it yourself. I've been watching this thread but haven't made any comments because I play on the clean side and my gain never sees noon, much less anything higher. I came from a Fender Twin and the 5:50 2X12 does fantastic clean, crunch, and blues. I've had...

    Express 5:50 and OD pedals

I didn't notice that the back of the headstock was signed until I had already bought it ... unless they all come that way. He used a gold sharpie, I assume, so it isn't too obvious.

    Express 5:50 and OD pedals

Nick: Did you get it at Magdon? I saw the 5:50 2X12 they had there the night Johnny Hiland was there is gone. I was there today ... bought the Black Cherry Johnny Hiland ... Wait till you hear the Hiland thru the 5:50 ... you're in for a treat.

    Express 5:50 and OD pedals

I use a Boss ME-50 in the effects loop and it works very well ... lots of options.
