Mark IIa Lead Channel - Can It Be Modded?

Hi Rick, That was a fun question. I played around with switching back and forth between Ch1 and Lead and a few other settings a bit last night. I'm sure differing combinations of guitar, pickups, and speakers could present a pretty broad band of tonal impressions in the switch, but this is what...

Mark IIa Lead Channel - Can It Be Modded?

Maybe a similar issue here. I have a Mark IIa export head dated 1979, she's got a pretty big looking transformer. I'd like to know if anybody has advice, and/or experience with modifying the Gain Boost feature. I love the character and the nuance in the breakup when the Gain Boost is engaged...

    Heartbreaker noise/distortion problem!!

Bummer about the FSW jack, yikes. Yeah, and I use the Silicon Diode rectifier setting often, especially when it's acting weird or blowing fuses, or if I'm playing some place where the power looks or sounds a little suspect (I really do prefer the Tube setting and use whenever I can). Switching...

    Heartbreaker noise/distortion problem!!

Did a couple of gigs in the last weeks, blew fuses each occasion. At rehearsal yesterday Ch 2 became very noisy w crackle, and Ch 1 output is considerably less volume than I remember. Anyone else notice large output differences between Ch1 and Ch2? Not including engaging the boost switch on CH1...

    Heartbreaker noise/distortion problem!!

JJ 5AR4 rectifiers consistently failed for me. One from Tube Amp Doctor worked out in that role without too much problem until recently.

    Mark V I hear radio ??? :'(

Not a mark V, but I have experienced some extreme radio problems with my Heartbreaker, not all of which are located as amp faults. I run at very high gain, use pedals, often play single coils, rehearsal space is wired 'interesting', and we are located on a hill with radio towers a couple blocks...

    Heartbreaker noise/distortion problem!!

Thanks for checking back Monsta, I just looked. In the opening pages they advertise using the Rectifier Select technology at full power, though they talk about using Bold/Curvaceous and engaging Tweed for vintage feel. The back panel and manual do say to use Tweed and Tube Rectifier settings...

    Heartbreaker noise/distortion problem!!

Thank you Monsta, much appreciated. I found some more on descriptions on the Eurotubes tube description page at http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-e.htm and I think I glean the quiet tube comment now. It's also good to know that the repeat failing rectifier thing is fairly common, sometimes I begin...

    Heartbreaker noise/distortion problem!!

I had the exact same behavior. It was a bad preamp tube, once replaced all was good on that front. I also have a Heartbreaker - it's currently roleplaying as it's evil twin: the Walletbreaker. I'm hoping you all can help me out with a preamp puzzle (you out there Andy?) I'm looking at cutting...
