Mesa STR 420 6L6 # and color codes

I've never used STR 415s. Only the 420s. I tried the red 23s and 50 today - man are they hot - too hot for my stuff. I play classic rock and these would be better for heavy metal. In your face sound. So that narrows it back down to the blu 02s or green 06s. It really does come down to just...

Mesa STR 420 6L6 # and color codes

Just tried the green 06s. I like em better than the 03s. Tighter I think - maybe that's what I'm looking for. So, on to the reds (32s and 50s). I'll let you know.

Mesa STR 420 6L6 # and color codes

Hi Hey, I apologize about not responding after everyone kindly responded to my question about colors / numbers and how soon the "break". I got away from this forum for awhile once my band got busy (good news I guess). I originally put in blue 02s in, and liked it. But after seeing the...

Which of my Boogie 6L6s to Use?

Thanks Guys - all good info. Mikey, I see what you're saying now about the parallel setup of the right and left pairs of sockets. I probably never will have a chance to truly crank this thing - just joined a band that keeps it pretty quiet in rehearsals. The days of cranking stacks are gone...

Mesa STR 420 6L6 # and color codes

Hi I have a Dual Recto Solo Head using Boogie 6L6's. I'm taking two power tubes and one Recto tube out to make it 50W. I have the following matched sets of Boogie power tubes available, and want to put in the two that will "overdrive" the easiest: All are 6L6s, and STR 420's 06 NG GREEN 03 SK...

Found some mesa str420 i never new i had..

I have a dual rectifier solo head with all 420's. Had it for about 14 yrs now, and still haven't had one blow. Yours could last a long time. Luckily I had a mesa 20/20 for awhile I bought used, and it had a bag full of matched 420s of different color codes with it. So I'm set for life.

Which of my Boogie 6L6s to Use?

Great information Mikey - thanks. Good to know I can get the tighter tone if I put that 2nd rectifier tube back in, as I do set to tube rectifier. On the socket order, there's another issue that there are numerous opinions on - almost all threads out there on the subject say the 2 inside ones...

Which of my Boogie 6L6s to Use?

Hey thanks for the replies. Looking at a bazzillion threads in this and other forums, this seems to be a topic that noone can get a solid fact about. Some say the mesa boogie color codes are just to match tube sets, which would make sense, BUT, why then are there also # and letter codes (06 NG...
