You dont need to use 2 cables for one head with a stereo Cab. Just run from the 8 ohm out on the head into the 16 ohm input on the cabinet and it will power all 4 speakers. Technically it would work, running the 2-cables out of the amp and powering each half of the stereo cab, but can't see...

To tighten up the amp, I use a Boost in front which works well.

Your using way too much gain for any type of Metal/hard Rock. Volume 1 on "8" and Lead drive on "8" is nearly maxed. This is what is causing all the squeal, loss of definition and dynamics. How high you have the master level/output set on the EQ you are running into the loop may also be part...

The Graphic EQ is Crucail to this amp if you plan on using it for any type of Hard Rock/Metal. The amp is horribly thin with out it. An EQ in the loop of a Non GEQ amp will also work just fine.

I have been having an issue with the effects loop of my MK III for a while now. Was wondering if anyone had any insight on this. When I run "anything" into the loop of my Mk III, the amp will sound normal for a few minuets, then the volume level of the amp will drop out to almost nothing. 30...

I'm glad to hear this, as I own a MkIII with no graphic EQ. I've been using an old Boss 5 band eq in the loop, but have been thinking about getting the MXR 10 band. I think I will now.

All you need to do is put any effects processor in the loop. Set the output for your rythmn sound setting at say, 75% and program a setting for your leads at say 85% or more. This will increase the actual volume for you during solos, when you call up the solo patch.

Also pull out the "Deep" knob. Add a boost in front if it get's muddy from the deep knob being pulled. This will smooth things out. I play more modern Metal in drop E flat and get a pretty good sound.

I have one of the very first ones made. It does not say MK III anywere on the amp or back.

Mk III

All Boogie amps sound decent at low volumes. You can still have a 50 or 100 watt amp, just run it on "1" and you will be fine. This way you won't have to limit your choice as to the Boogie you buy. But if you must have a real low wattage amp, I hear good things about the F-30.

Here's mine. No stripe I believe? I know it's one of the very first ones, as when I called Mesa to place my order for a Mk II C, I was told for the first time about the new MkIII. They said I could still get the Mk II if I wanted. Had not yet heard of the Mk III, but I ordered it. 2-weeks later...

I ordered my MkIII direct from Mesa right after they came out in 85 or 86. The thing cost $950 even back then new, adding options like EQ and reverb were $150 each. Didn't have the cash, and didn't think the EQ was a big deal. I had tried out a friends MKIIC w/ all options prior to buying mine...
