    Mark IV HATE!

I loved the tone I was getting a bit earlier today - standing behind and to the right of the speaker cabinet with a pillow shoved in the back. Same settings as before with channel vol. at 2-2.5 and master about 2.5. I still heard a bit of the harsh sizzle sound, but overall it was very good. I...

    Mark IV HATE!

I run a 3/4 back 1x12, triode, class A, and lead channel volume at around 2.5. With the master at 5-6 it's not THAT loud. It sits well with my drummer at this volume on stage.

    Mark IV HATE!

Alright fine, I didn't want to say it earlier but I consider myself well above average, especially for the amount of time I've been playing. The shop didn't have the MkIV that they had a few weeks ago, they're getting another on Friday. He said I could bring mine in and compare.

    Mark IV HATE!

Good technique or bad, a low E power chord shouldn't sound like an ice pick drilling through my ear. Your settings are pretty much exactly what I have, I keep the treble a bit higher to get the "chunk" sound for palm muted stuff on the low strings. I knew my thread title would spark some...

    Mark IV HATE!

Missed this one, you pretty much summed up my thoughts. I've tried the Mk IV with my buddies Crate 4x12, but didn't get much time to compare because he showed up for practice like 5 minutes later, and I was more worried about a good rehearsal. Amp didn't even get time to warm up.. but yes, the...

    Mark IV HATE!

My buddies PRS Custom 24 is no different. Turning down the treble cuts fizz a bit, but also eliminates a ton of gain and chunk. The Hellraiser sustains for ages as well. And I mentioned nothing about the type of tone that I want, just that I can't get a good sound out of the Mark IV - good sound...

    Mark IV HATE!

I don't know if any of you here remember, but I had a big thread a little bit back on trying to get my Mark IV to sound good. I looked at all the suggestions, tried everything, tweaked to no end, switched power tubes, guitars, and I can't get the lead channel to sound even passable! I think of...

Mark IV clean channel is dirty

Alright, I will keep those cabs in mind when I look for another one. I figure I might as well keep the 3/4 back because I won't make much off of it and it should help "disperse" the sound more, since you say all closed backs are relatively directional. I'll also keep your 'turn it up' advice in...

Mark IV clean channel is dirty

cool, lots of people for changing caps. I will have to get that done, once I build up a little cash- just spent it all on the C-7 :P Anyway, it really does sound a lot better with a little volume. I took it to practice last night and played through my drummer's Crate 4x12 and it sounded...

Mark IV clean channel is dirty

Yeah I've looked into that one, but that would mean trading my medium head in for a short one. Almost gauranteed to lose me money that I don't have with the age of this thing. Awesome, thanks so much for the info. I will definitely look into that. So fresh caps will mainly serve to tighten it...

Mark IV clean channel is dirty

Hey mrd, first of all thank you for the detailed reply. I've been trying some of the things you said in the past few hours. I started off with your front panel settings, which are pretty close to mine, and ended up almost back where I started (bass and mid a bit lower and presence pushed). As...

Mark IV clean channel is dirty

I don't leave the guitar plugged in, and I already said that the problem went away. Sorry, guess that wasn't clear - it made the distorted sound on the clean channel, and I turned the amp off and back on and it was fine. I was just wondering if it was cause for concern. My main thing is getting...

Mark IV clean channel is dirty

Well, it was. I turned it off and back on and now it's fine. I turned the gain down to about 2 and it was still distorted. The thing is, I'm not entirely sure it was the amp - I just bought a lightly used C-7 Hellraiser with active EMG pickups, and I'm not sure if a dying battery can cause that...

Mark 4 has finally arrived! (pics+tonetest)

Man, you're killing me. I'm looking desperately for one of these, it makes it that much worse that I just got a new 112 3/4 back cab in today :/ The clips sound great.

I can just tell that it will be ridiculous.. they want $240 for the footswitch, imagine what they'll want for this.

Will Mesa sell me a headshell?

Will they sell me just the headshell for a Mark IV amp? If so how much would it run? Thanks!
