EL84 recommendations for Yellowjackets in Road King II

They had NO markings on them AT ALL! The seller said they were original, so I believe they are JJ's, but that is only an assumption... Tony

EL84 recommendations for Yellowjackets in Road King II

****! I FINALLY tried the Yellowjackets in my RKII!!! They are exactly what I was hoping for! Glassy, full of cut & Kerrang! They even seem to have more bottom than the 34's. Unfortunately I have to wait a couple of weeks or so, when my music room is finished, to hook up my open backed 4x10 up...

LSC Head ordered Jan 28, and still waiting.............

ARG! One amp (LSS),2 drastically different sounding guitars

I'm not sure about a LSS, but on a DR or a RKII, a quick tweak fo the gain & presence will usually do the trick. I set the solo boost, which I don't use for solo's often, to equalize output differences between guitars. Just a thought... Tony

EL84 recommendations for Yellowjackets in Road King II

I'm going to experiment with replacing the EL34's with EL84's in my RK II. The Yellowjackets I got used came with no-name, beat looking tubes so I'm looking for any suggestions from you guys. I'd be willing to go NOS, but I don't want anything TOO pricey, as they WILL wear quickly, I know...

    RKII rectifier indicator question.

Thanks, I forgot there IS a comboversion...duh! Thanks to all for letting me know I'm not alone & that my head IS indeed OK! Now, if they'll just finish the correct front panel & send it, I can change it out & take pics to brag about, hehe! Thanks Again, Tony

    RKII rectifier indicator question.

Tried Spongy mode, still the same. Not a big deal, but I thought it was strange. It's also strange that in the manual, the front AND rear panel layouts are pretty much backwards! VERY strange! Tony

    RKII rectifier indicator question.

I just got it directly from Mesa 11 days ago, so this isn't an "old" issue. The issue is this, put simply. the tube recto indicators stay lit in addition to the diode light in diode mode. The diode light goes out in tube recto mode. Tony

    RKII rectifier indicator question.

Thanks! I'm not sure if they all light all the time, but I DO feel better now! Tony

    RKII rectifier indicator question.

On my new RKII, when I choose diode rectification, the "appropriate" tube rectifier indicator(s) remain lit. IS this normal? They DO change when I change channels & appear to be correct. When I choose, for instance, the 2x6L6 with diode, the diode AND one tube recto indicators go on & if I...

Crazy Road King + Yellowjacket Idea

Any update on this? Has anyone replaced the EL34s, rather than the 6L6s? I'm contemplating this(when mine is delivered), as I don't want to lose the thump & am not a big EL34 fan, but love 84's! Tony

    Road King II fan cooled?

Waiting on mine, but curious, are the heads fan cooled? With all those tubes, you'd think so, no? FWIW, I'll probablymount one on mine... Tony

I'm juiced! I got a recorded message(1st time ever!) from UPS saying it would be delivered tomorrow, requiring a signature! Woo Hoo...can't wait! Tony

How many RKII owners out there ?

I'm hoping to have mine in a couple of weeks. I guess it's taking longer because of the Garnet front panel. I hope it looks as cool as I think it will! Tony

    Do halogen bulbs cause hum/noise?

I'm in the process of a basement remodel which includes a home theater & a music room & am avoiding florescent lighting for noise reasons. Do halogen bulbs have ant inherrent noise issues? I've found some fixtures that I really like for the theater room, but don't want to use them if problems...

Crazy Road King + Yellowjacket Idea

[If you face the back of the RK1 head and look to the right, you'll see the 2 rectifier tubes. Then, the next two tubes to the left of the rectifiers are the 2 6L6's that I replaced.] Shouldn't it be either the inside or outside 6L6's? I just want to clarify before attempting. Tony
