interesting - does the kit contain specific tubes for each position eg V1 V2 etc? and if so what is the difference between the tubes. im assuming V1 is balanced and V5 is also balanced? just curious, maybe there are some specs to aim for in preamp tubes...?

i read it somewhere on this forum, you can remove the diamond plate using a heat gun or hairdryer. its glued on. i myself would not try this. and i like the diamond plate anyways.

i belive its the same reason you cant turn the channel volume up past 10 o clock without it starting to turn mushy... even when the master output is in a normal 12 o clock position i would still keep the channel volume down. maybe this is a series I series II issue? im pretty sure i own the...

^with this setting everything is pretty much maxed out, the gain & bass are up as far as they will go without it turning to mush. i kid you not. maybe its my speakers but i dont think so, i use an engl vintage 4x12 cab.

thanks for the info, i ended up getting a pair of grey JJ 6L6's from Tube Town, they sound great in my single rec. Brought back the headroom and tightened the bass alot. the old tubes were stock mesa yellow str 430's

can i ask a question i guess is on everyones mind - is it only the 3 channel versions or the older dual recs too?

what amp are you trading? id say get the blackface! they are not so easy to come by... Also if the seller is local go and check the amp out, ive heard too many horror stories of trades gone wrong.

What the hardest color code my mesa single rec can run safely. there are stock yellow code mesa 6l6's in it right now. I would like as much headroom as i can get before the powerubes start to distort. also i assume ill need a really good PI to go along with the powertubes... I want a smooth...
