    Mark III Combo-to-Headshell Conversion

gts came through in a major way with a gorgeous headshell (black taurus with wicker grill). The actual installation took a couple hours because I had never taken the combo apart for any maintenance/tube changes. There was a decent amount of trial and error involved. I'll know for next time...

    Post removed.

I've never had a problem with R2. It's fun to play with the gain dimed; I like the harmonics in the distortion that this sound produces. R2 doesn't cut as well as the clean channel or lead channel in my experience, but I never really played around with it too much. I think most if the hate for...

converting mark iii combo to head?

Been a while since I've posted on here, though I viewed many a thread on the board before I took the plunge on a mark iii combo, which I love. As the amp is seeing more time outside of my house, I'm beginning to appreciate how goddamn heavy it really is. With the guts of the amp, the EVM 12L...

Kind of surprised at the negatives....

...NO, MY DICK IS THE BIGGEST!!! in all seriousness though, everyone expected/wanted different things from this amp. the c+ mode in the V is supposed to be the exact same preamp circuit, but instead of having several extra potentiometers and push/pull thingies (very technical, i know) like the...

HELP! - Mark III -Blue or Green Stripe?

definitely a blue stripe just by the color. my blue stripe combo has the exact same color stripe (tautological evidence ftw). but yeah, from what i understand, when they started doing the serial numbers on the left side of the back panel, if it was a 60 or a 60/100 it had to be blue. call up...

Who inspired you to play a boogie?

James Hetfield (Master of Puppets) and John Petrucci (Metropolis Pt. 2). Amazing Tones. I can just listen to those albums for the rhythm guitar tones all day (although petrucci's lead tone is fantastic... fatal tragedy solo omg).

How do YOU break new speakers in?

dunno if there are any audiophiles in the building, but you need to do the same thing with new headphones (nice ones obv). in the case of headphones though, it's really easy and quiet. all you do is hook them up to a stereo overnight with loud music running through them. driving guitar speakers...

    Let me hear the METAL!!!

that first track "hypnotize" has a f*cking ill rhythm sound. it make me want to plug my esp m1 in to my blue stripe mark III with the middle slider way down and give my apartment complex hell!

Trading Mark III for Mark IV?

definitely take it to a mesa certified tech near you (http://mesaboogie.com/US/Dealers/locator/zip_search_r.php) and pay the money to get him to look over the amp (old capacitors and resistors, etc.) and show you how to change the tubes. It's pretty much accepted on this board that the stock...

Trading Mark III for Mark IV?

also, when was the last time you had the amp taken in for maintenance/look over by a tech? all the red stripes are at least 20 years old at this point...

    Red Stripe Mark iii

check out what mesa says about the tone controls: http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Mark%20III.pdf tony777 is right on (as usual, lol) when it comes to the bass knob. the mark series aren't like other amps. you can't just turn all the knobs to 10 like eddie did on his SLP for the early van...
