    Help I.D. this head please

Very cool find and a great story. Hold on to that one forever.

Who is your guitar hero and what's your iconic guitar tone?

For me, it's a toss up between Gary Holt and and James Hetfield for sheer playing inspiration. I've met Gary a few times too and even got to hang out on the tour bus with them for a while before a show in PGH. Dude is super cool and totally humble. Tone wise, it's a toss up between Master of...

    To tighten

My Mark III has ridiculous amounts of gain on its own, can't see any reason for an overdrive pedal to tighten it up. A GEQ in the loop would probably be the best bet. You could even get the Mesa 5 band EQ pedal to get the same frequency adjustments as the GEQ built into the amps.

Mark V with 4X12 mesa cabinet on CL $1000

    Wow, that's a deal and a half.

[audio] Presence Impact on Mark III Crunch

Nice comparison. They all do sound good, but the zero levels seem to cut through better. Mine was on 7 when I bought it and I found it to be pretty harsh. Have since settled on about 2.5 and it smoothed things our nicely but still retains a bit of an edge.

I need to make a decision FAST!! help me

I love the way vintage 30s sound so I would personally go with either the Mesa or H&K, most likely the Mesa. The sound is just huge!

Going to try a Phaser in the front and then just use the amp's reverb. That should get me by.

Interesting, will give it at try. Just got an EQ/reverb switch pedal, quite nice to have. Another thing I notice is that when using pedals in the loop, I lose volume and gain. Seems like it is a common issue with these older amps. Kinda sucks though as it would be nice to have delay and chorus...

I need to make a decision FAST!! help me

The wrong or right cab makes all the difference. My Mark III sounded OK through my Peavey straight 4x12 w/ Sheffields. When I tried it through my recently acquired Carvin 4x12 straight with Vintage 30s, it was like a totally different amp. The sound was so much bigger and full of life. Night...

 Yep, that's about right. For all out decibels, this thing blows away the X100B it replaced.

Mark II, Mark III, in love

Very nice! I would love to have a IIC+ as well, but they are well outside my budget. The III (blue) is close enough for me though.

Thanks guys. The amp just keeps getting better and better as I learn to tweak the settings. It's amazing how responsive it is to even the smallest knob or slider change too. The volume is ridiculous too. I ran it on Master volume 2 for a few minutes over the weekend and beer mug collection...

Carvin amps... what do you think??

Recently sold my X100B to get Carvin 412VB (with V30s) for my Mark III, actually got $100 more than I paid for it just 4 years ago. That said, it was a solid amp and relatively versatile, though not in the same league as the III. As many have said, it had a great clean sound and the reverb was...

    Mark III

Wow, thanks for the info. Pretty cool to know that the amp is Simul-Class. I think I'm going to get some EL34s and try them in the outer sockets. It sounds great now but for the small cost of a few tubes, it's worth a shot. By the way, my amp is a combo so the switch is on the back.

    Mark III

So does the switch on the back of the non-simul say 60/100 instead of class a / simulclass? I will pull the chassis and check the transformer to be sure.

    Mark III

I just picked up a Mark III blue stripe combo with EQ and reverb from Music Go Round and I paid $850, if that gives you any help. The switch on the back toggles between class A / Simulclass, but it has 4 6L6GC's in it so I'm not sure if it's the 15/75 or 60/100. Either way, it sounds incredible!

Very nice!! Just picked up the same thing a few weeks ago and I am loving it.

Hi, I am new to the board and Mesa in general. Just recently purchased a nice clean Mark III blue stripe simulclass / EQ combo from Music Go Round. So far I am LOVING it!! I am playing it through a Carvin 4x12 straight cab with Vintage 30s and it just crushes. I mostly play metal and rock...
