Mark III - Keep the bass down or lose your mind like I did!

Yep, definitely gotta keep the bass knob down. I have mine set on 2-3 usually and just use the low end slider to dial in the required amount of thump.

Mark III Cabinet / Speaker ? Vintage 30's??

I run my Mark III (blue) through a Carvin 4x12 with V30s and it sounds great to me. I keep the presence very low (1-2 range) and there is no harshness at all.

    NAD Mark III

Wow man, you stole that thing! Unbelievable deal on an amazing amp and cab!

Mesa Boogie Low Watt Amps - Any Recommendations?

Another +1 to the Simulclass combo suggestion. I run my Mark III (blue) mostly in Class A mode (15 watts) and I love it!

I picked up a Mark iii Red Stripe this weekend (My 1st Mk)

Congratulations on the new amp! I love my Mark III too, so many tones that you can get out of it.

    Newbie. Thank you! MkIIc+ Issues.

The bass pot set too high would be my guess as well. I have a Mark III which is not terribly different than the Mark IIC+ and it definitely doesn't need an overdrive pedal if it's set right. It has more gain than any amp I've ever played, and it's sharp/tight. No "boom" too it, unless you...

    Recording with Mark III

I bought a Pyle PDMIC78 (cheap clone of an SM57) on Amazon that I use to mic my cabs and record right into a USB port into Audacity. It works well enough for me to get sound into a file and only cost about $15. Sooner or later I'll get a real SM57 but this was a nice easy way to learn to record.

    Mark iii at Bedroom Levels?

Yes, you can use a Mark III combo at bedroom levels. You can just use the EQ sliders to tailor the sound for lower volumes. It won't have the same "soul" and feel as if it were up louder, but it will still sound great and will get the job done. When I run mine at sane volume, the EQ curve is...

Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier w/ Digitech Rp500 Distortion

Personally, I would not use the RP500 for anything other than modulation/reverb/delay effects. Digital distortion simply does not compare with a high gain tube amp like the Dual Rectifier. You might want to try adding an EQ in the fx loop to and use that to fine tune your sound. Mesa makes a...

Looking to buy a superstrat - advice need

Another +1 to Charvel. I don't own any but I have played a few over the years and I really liked them. Always wanted one but just never got around to it. Jackson is another good option, though you have to watch out for certain year ranges and models.

    Jet City JTM45 clone

So this will be coming out in a few months. It sounds incredible! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/jtm45-style-amp Really nails some of the most classic guitar tones. Going to have to start saving my pennies...

Has anyone heard of ReVv amps?

I have seen them on Fluff's channel as well as on Spectre Sound Studios and they usually sound amazing.

    ABYing Two Different Amps?

I used to use my stereo chorus pedal as a splitter. It was fine for cleans and lower gain, but as soon as volume or gain got anywhere near "fun", there was way too much squealing and the amps were out of phase. Give the Radial Twin Cities a try when you get your ABY, it works great and removes...

    ABYing Two Different Amps?

Sounds like a great combo you have going on there! I am currently ABYing my 2 Jet City 20 watt heads through my Jet City stereo 4x12 (with Eminence Legend copies) and it sounds awesome. The JCA22H head has a bright, biting modern metal tone and the JCA22 Custom head is darker, deeper and more...

Live clip of my original Boogie IIC+

Wow, that sounds incredible! Proof enough that nothing sounds like a IIC+!

Mark III as a clean machine?

Another great clean boost pedal is the TC Electronic Spark mini. It gives a nice clean boost without coloring the sound. I use one with my Jet City 22H when I need that extra bit of grit. I tried it with my Mark III as well, and it works fine, but that thing doesn't need anymore boost.

Mark III as a clean machine?

Channel 1 on mine can get sparkly clean but that usually means giving up some gain on the lead channel. Getting channel 3 "clean" but still retaining a full sound is probably not going to be easy. Have you tried using a lower gain tube in V1, like a 12AT7?

    Mesa Mark III Cabinets

Randall makes and isolation cabinet with a V30 that sells new for $399. Probably not the same quality as the box of doom, but might be worth a shot. You could probably throw your EVM12L in it if you don't like the V30 tone...

Best Recorded rep. of Mark III

The guitars on Exodus' Pleasures of the Flesh album were recorded using a Mark III. Gary was not a big fan of it, though, due to difficulty dialing in and keeping a good tone. To be honest, the tone on that album is my least favorite of theirs, though it's certainly not terrible. Fabulous...

    Mesa Mark III Cabinets

Any sealed 2x12 or 4x12 will give you a much punchier and tighter sound. Unless you have understanding neighbors, though, you won't be able to crank it up much. An isolation box is a great idea too, though they can be just as expensive as a new 4x12.
