lonestar or not to lonestar; that is the question

Versitility. If you don't play live you might be happy with the Express. Just make sure you try them both rather than buy one and always wonder about the other.

    FS: Black Shadow C90 BNIB

Brand new, unopened box, Celestion C90 Black Shadow speaker, 12" 8ohm. £95.00, £10 to post anywhere in UK. Bought to make my own speaker cab but have gone a different route.

Pics from my gig this morning!

The bass player has that... "how does this one go?" look :)

    10/50/100 Classic

When did the Mk2 Classic with the three way power switching actually get launched?

    Coping with the weight

I agree, I go white everytime I see my amp being manhandled by someone else followed by clunks, bumps and rattling reverb....

    Coping with the weight

I've gone the head route with a 1X12 cab. After putting my back out lifting my Special into the back of my truck I'd rather do two trips than struggle with the combo. They're still not exactly light but just enough of a difference to make it easier. Now if I could make my Mackie 1530's a bit...

Used my Lonestar for the first time with a band...

Only when the bass player is too loud. I make him turn down rather than me turn up. I don't see the point in rehearsing at gig volumes. Have you tried a different guitar through your amp? have you tried just your guitar and a good quality lead? Is the jack socket on your guitar corroded?
  8. M

Do you guys elevate your amp?

Yes I sit mine on a chair, even if I'm on a high stage. I like to be able to hear myself clearly and also be able to see the amp settings.

Converting a combo to a head

Compared to what we pay for Mesa gear in the UK, that to me is a steal! If I could've bought a headshell for 400 bucks I'd have paid it, then sold the old combo shell on ebay for $400 to someone who wanted to to convert their headshell into a combo! Oh the irony..... My used Lonestar Classic...

Converting a combo to a head

I've got a good idea, why doesn't someone call Mesa and ask them! :D

    Lonestar Special vs. Lonestar

Got my classic head today and plugged it into my Special's speaker..... SWEEEEET! :D I must admit I was a little nervous in case I'd made a mistake but I think I'm going to be very happy! Sounded surprisingly good at low volume, a little light on the drive channel at that level but looking...

    Just bought a Lonestar Classic!

Good choice :) My Lonestar head arrives tomorrow. I have a special and it's fantastic. Check out the Barber Small fry- some good demo's on youtube, also the tone press compressor.

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

Well, bang for the buck the FRAMUS FR212 CB is my best option by far. I'm just waiting for a price on a Lonestar 1X12 cab and the Zilla with V30's then I'll make a decision. http://www.thomann.de/gb/framus_fr212_cb.htm?sid=4ccee728214a7195dd86aebb5b32f8ad

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

Thanks Mark. As I'm actually in the UK it would be cost prohibitive to get any speakers from the states. I've decided to go with a Zilla cab: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/zilla-music-custom_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsxQ3asstQQtZkm loaded with a pair of Celestion vintage 30's or a C90 if I can find...

    Lonestar Special vs. Lonestar

boogiemon is right, the headroom is a factor here. I play in a fairly loud band due to our drummer not having a volume control and our bass player thinking nobody can hear him. They keep telling me to turn up ( I keep telling them to turn down :) ) but things on the LSS are getting a bit...

Converting a combo to a head

powermatt99 is right, the special 1X12 combo is still heavy enough- I put my back out last week lifting it into my truck and I'm not a weakling!. I'm going the head/cab route also. I've bought the head, now looking for a speaker.

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

Any recommendations on Vintage 30's in an open backed cab?

    lonestar question

Can you define "sponginess"? is this a bad thing or a good thing? I've heard the term used quite a lot around here, but not sure what it means...

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

Nice ideas, but I'm in the UK so it makes shipping a bit expensive! :) I'm almost weakening to buying a real Mesa cab, but could still be swayed for something around half the price....

    Non Mesa 2X12 cab?

Yes I had thought of that! :D
