20/20 strange high pitch noise when playing

Hi, my 20/20 has been geting a high pitch squeel for just a microsecond when you hit a chunky chord and mute it. I'm guessing a tube is going microphonic but how do I test this? Would it be the 12AX7's or the EL84's? thanks.

Quad: loud reverb hum and big pop on reverb boost/cancel

Hi, Just recently my quad has become quite noisy when applying reverb, massive amounts of hum. It used to be dead quiet. It also gets a really loud pop when I switch the reverb boost or cancel on/off. any ideas on what could be the issue? thanks

duplicating the load on the B channel of my 2:90

I definitely disagree with the manual! my 20/20 says the same thing My amp tech gave me some advice about this same issue when I first got my 20/20 and from my own experience you should never run a tube amp without a load. PERIOD buy yourself a speaker load (or make it yourself for a few $)...

duplicating the load on the B channel of my 2:90

hey man, you should never run a tube amp without a load ie: speaker or attenuator. If you do there's a good chance you will fry the output tranny and be up for big $$ repair. I run my 20/20 mono and just plug the unused channel into an appropriate block of resistors I made. still run it set a 0...

    Quad + 20/20 = groundloop or hum?

yes it will be obvious. make sure you safely power it down to avoid and risks! while you have it open check that all the tubes are seated to.

    Quad + 20/20 = groundloop or hum?

you have the exact same setup as mine :) quad->20/20 with rockman octopus I had a hum issue with the quad and was traced the the reverb tank leads had come loose. Also, make sure that the tank has the connectors on the right way as that can create lots of hum.. good luck!

Quad preamp- 2 channels at the same time?

the boogie footswitch wont allow you to use two channels at once (at least mine wouldnt), to do it you need to use latching switches plugged into the back of the preamp. I use a rocktron octopus to midi switch mine and can do all the combinations. cheers.

    20/20 noise problems

the saga continues with the 20/20. (I have a feeling my one is a lemon!) the tech has replaced the filter caps in the amp. apparently this has resolved nearly all the noise and harmonic issues.. however, the tech has said the fan is introducing noise in the amp. So I was wondering if its...

    restoring a Mesa Quad

Hi, Ive got a 1989 model Quad and I was wondering about if its worth replacing any components due to it now being 18 years old to restore it to its new condition. Any components that would degrade etc? I don't know much about whats in the quads so would like some idea's. cheers.

    20/20 noise problems

seems the simple fix wasn't so simple. Got the amp home from the tech and the hum is gone but I have horrible sound in channel A still. sounds like weird sort of harmonics when you play. Channel B is fine tho... its very strange. any idea's ? cheers.

    20/20 noise problems

took the amp to technician. Wasnt the valves after all! Somehow wires from volume pot A got caught under the top when it was screwed on and had been crushed. Strange as I've never had thing apart, possibly it been like that since new?? Taking it out of my rack to change the tubes exacerbated...

    20/20 noise problems

Hi guys, I did plug in the guitar straight in and still bad hum and overtones from channel A. I might see if I can get some tubes off ebay just to test if they are faulty. Be a bit anoying if it is the tubes as I only just bought them from eurotubes. cheers.

    20/20 noise problems

I cleaned the pins and the sockets, swapped the tubes around and still big hum on the A channel. Could be a tube but I fear something more serious so I'm using channel B alone and will take it to a tech soon to check it out.

    20/20 noise problems

hmmm, I dont have the old tubes now... I'll take them all out, clean the pins and put them back in different places... so I take it that its most likely a tube problem and not something more serious internally? cheers

    20/20 noise problems

Hi, I just recently changed all my tubes to JJ's. It was ok for first few uses but now when I turn on the 20/20 it get an awefull loud hum and when I play it sounds like the guitar has tremelo effect on it. any idea's what could be the problem? All the tube are glowing and appear to be seated...

    cable quality for Quad switches

Hi, I've got my quad connected to a rockman midi octopus using just some cheap speaker cable to do channel switching. I was wondering if the cable should be better quality as I dont know if they actually run signal?? cheers.

    Ebay experience ??

I got all my rig on ebay, quad pre, 20/20 and quadbox (from different sellers). no problems whatsoever. as others have stated it is a gamble on the seller providing acurate info. Be wary of sellers charging rediculous shipping! I never buy from anyone with negative feedback or no feedback! good...

Help! using a behringer fcg1010 midi control with my tri ???

Tim, as suggested check out the yahoo group: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/fcb1010/ Lots of info available and you can download the PC editor that makes it simple to setup the unit to send whatever midi notes/commands you need. Once you get your head around it its pretty easy to use and...

    Quad preamp- noisy reverb.

Ed, Thanks for that info, sounds like they need shielding or as you suggest removing into a seperate case. I'm looking at getting a G-Major or similar and running reverb with that soon so might remove the reverb in the Quad completely. cheers, paul.
