that manual must have been written in the era when chinese tubes weren't so good. There was a period of time a decade or two ago when their quality wasn't so good. They're all good nowadays. I'm running all chinese pre and power tubes in my XTC with no problems at all. sounds great!

I use an amp-head bias tester. Very good product and easy to use. Do a search for amp-head.
