Anyone do the Voodo mods to their single rec?

I love the Voodoo Mods on my Rectoverb. I bought a new Series 2 in 2006 and had it modified at Voodoo soon thereafter because my guitar was getting lost in our stage mix. I had the standard mod and new tranny installed. The Voodoo mod changes the distortion characteristics--less buzzy, with...

    Another Voodoo mod question

After the Voodoo mod, the change in how the amp responds to playing full chords is dramatic. Individual notes are more distinct, even with maximum overdrive. I agree with Juancito--it does sound great at any volume level. i find it is much more responsive to the guitar's volume controls, too...

    Another Voodoo mod question

Trace modified my ROV2 early last year--transformer, too. Great work, cool guys, and you get to hang out and watch if you want! The ROV has traveled thousands of miles and has hundred of hours on it; it's been reliable as a stone. I play it through a 2x12 Recto cabinet, and put everything on top...

    Single Rectifier Queries???

Your setup should rock...the Celestions and the EMGs are a great combination with the Boogie. Keep working at it...and don't ignore the manual! There are lots of good "starting points" in there, and the explanation of how the tone stack works may give you a clue about how to get what you're after.

Recto Epiphany #2: Tone Purist to Stay!

Why is that, do you think, ibanez4life? I've seen lots of folks mention it, so I'm sure it's valid, but it seems odd. I use the loop in my amp 100% of the time, so I guess I'll have to try putting my FX rack through the input.

    Mesa Cabs: Very VERY Directional?

Right on, right on...for me, anyway! I prefer the "straight on" sound, too. I stopped using my 4x12 1960 cab because in many situations I couldn't hear myself with the cab on the floor. The sound was blowing past my knees, not up to my ears. To compensate, I was turning it up louder--too loud...

    I am doing it

I have a MercMag OT in my Boogie. The difference was immediately noticeable, especially on the clean channel. The OT also made the distortion "clearer" in a way that made the individual strings seem distinct regardless of how much overdrive I use. Good Luck! Philip

    Mesa Cabs: Very VERY Directional?

This has been my experience, too. Every cab I've owned--open back, close back, ported, etc.--all exhibited on-axis harshness to a large degree.

Single Rect not cutting through the mix

Cool...in rehearsal, I actually use more presence, too. I don't turn the presence up very far during a live performance, when instruments are spread out so much further. Do you play with another guitarist? A Keyboard player? I'm generally in the vicinity of the keyboardist, and he often uses...

Single Rect not cutting through the mix

My understanding is the Single Rec is the same as the Rect-O-Verb without the reverb circuit...there is no channel 3 AFAIK. And you're right about the extra expense. The Voodoo mod is expensive and I'm fortunate to have had enough money to customize my sound when I bought the amp. The...

    Glossary

Ouch! :) Seriously, I interpreted his question as a request for the forum users to share stuff here on these pages ("one-stop shopping," so to speak), in addition to links to helpful sites. No offense intended, my knowledge base notwithstanding.

    Glossary

Strangely, it doesn't define "clipping" or "headroom." And the definition of "feedback" isn't what any new electric guitarist would be thinking of! Some other helpful amplifier concepts not mentioned in the glossary are resonant frequency, harmonics, noise reduction, and "class" v...

    My boogie is toooo buzzy.

This is kind of a pricey option, but check out voodooamps.com. They made my single recto even better.

Well, "clipping" is an easy one to visualize. Remember those waveform graphs you've seen with the wavy line going up and down across a horizontal center line? Nomally, the wave has nice, smooth, rounded tops and bottoms. When the amplitude (volume, usually in decibels) of a signal gets too...

Sacrilege! Replacement knobs for the Tremoverb/Rectifier?

Bingo. I did the same thing with small bits of self-adhesive lettering I had lying around the studio for other purposes. Six months and no problems with the stickers rubbing off. If done neatly with white tape, the knobs retain that really cool chrome look, but the white tape shows up much...

Warming up your amp before playing....?

The owner's manual says thirty seconds...they ought to know. And it sounds like you DO need a retube!

    casing for my new 400+??

My brother plays through an older 400+ which came in its own rack case. It seems to me that there is quite a bit of room above and below the amp when mounted in the case...I'm assuming this was done purposely! Perhaps a size larger would be better for your amp?

changing tubes in a mesa...does it bring a lot?

Boogiebabies: Nicely written. You've obviously spent some time and effort on this, and have enough Mesa amps in your stable to have had a good deal of experience. The subject fascinates me, but I honestly don't hear enough of a difference in any of my own tube amps to be neurotic about it...
