Like one of those old ladies wearing a red hat, red pants, red blouse, red jacket, red shoes, all slightly different shades of red?? ;^) haha the metal grill is just too back alley for that beautiful guitar and classic style head

    Lead Channel responsiveness in DC2 / DC3

I own a Studio Caliber which I hear is closer to a DC-2 than a Studio .22 and the lead channel is terrible with both. It's more of a Trey A. kind of thing, I mean good for making your fast runs more fluid sounding. It's very very compressed. The Blue Angel was similar, but the Blue Angel had...

Improving the Studio .22 clean tone

The Black Shadow speaker that came in my Studio Caliber had NO TREBLE. The Treble control had no affect... not sure what someone did to it, but I ordered a custom Weber British Ceramic 1230-55 with light doping. It is a GREAT speaker and gave me the sounds that I wanted (after doing a lot of...

Improving the Studio .22 clean tone

Monsta-Tone - I've been wondering about just what was different between the .22 and Studio Cal. So, that's cool. Still, I recommend a GE 5751 (lower gain, but more closely related to a 12AX7 in the other specs than a 12AT7 or 12AY7. Another point, chime is not just about the presence loop or...

Improving the Studio .22 clean tone

Not according to the Mesa Engineering Diagram I was sent by Michael Taylor at Mesa. It also goes against logic. The first tube is always tied to the input. However, the diagram is for a DC2, it does correspond to my "Studio Caliber". Maybe the Studio .22 is slightly different, but that goes...

Improving the Studio .22 clean tone

That is the area I have spent the most time on making improvements to my Studio Caliber. V1 is the input buffer for both channels, and V4 is all about the Rhythm channel. Here is what I have determined: v1 - a NOS GE 5751 V4 - a NOS GE 5751 (DON'T use a Philips 5751!!! You've been warned)...

    Caliber/Studio loudness?

My .22(ish) is way too loud for bedroom playing, but it has a mute switch and recording out that I can monitor through my computer audio setup. It's an early Studio Caliber, which is mostly a .22 I would get another company's single power tube head and just use one of your cabs or get a new...

New Thiele(s) Day and ohm question

The 2:90 is different since it's a stereo amp, it's basically two power amps separated inside that chassis. I wouldn't want to hear about you burning up all 8 6L6s.
  12. O

    Slave out question

:) I can speak to that. I have seen the recording circuit PCB assembly from a formula pre. It's basically a couple transformers and some transistors, and of course resistors and capacitors (it's been a while, so I may be wrong), but it's mostly 2 transformers (each would fit inside a golf ball)...

    V1 Bottle Rocket Opinions?

When I tried one it was the first batch of them and it was through one side of a 2:90 with a Recto Horiz 2x12. But, like others have said it's nothing like any of the other boogie sounds, even different than anything in the Tri-Axis. The closest thing I can think of would be a Big Muff Pi pedal...

New Thiele(s) Day and ohm question

Speaker's ohms ratings are not accurate. "8 ohm speakers" are usually 6.xx, 7.xx or possibly 8.xx ohms - so you want to check each one with a DMM before calculating. I would just unplug the C90 and plug each Thiele into a 4 ohm jack to get an "8 ohm" load, if that's how that amp's speaker jacks...

    Slave out question

ta0j15 - good questions. Is the slave out equivalent to the recording out circuitry of e.g., a Studio Caliber or is it just straight off the OT transformer? They put the jacks down there on the bottom because boogies are so packed with goodies, that's the only place they will fit!

    ''Caliber history''

So, this "studio caliber" (no .22 silk-screenage) is from possibly '84? Pfft. Almost as old as me... With the tone to match.

    DC-2?

I believe they (mine is a "Studio Caliber") are good for classic '70s rock (more bluesy like Neil Schon style) and blues. It's definitely not very modern, unless you consider electronic vocal pop guitar sounds. I like very modern sounds (Tri-Axis / Demeter w/ STP mod / THD Univalve) so that...

What audio interface do you use or recommend?

He is right about M-Audio drivers. But that is mainly for 64-bit drivers. They still have not been able to write one that works for their Delta cards which came out in like 2001, and 64-bit OS have been out for about I don't know 5 years? ECHO is your best bet in that price range. The Mackie...

    DC-3 Speaker question?

I used to work there in the late 90s and if I remember correctly, they switched from Celestion to Eminence for the Black Shadow spkrs sometime in the 90s. I could be wrong. They only put V30's in the high-end amps and cabinets.
