    Rectifier Lineage...

I just got myself #R-0026xx and it has a 138 power tranny & a 105 OT. I guess that makes it a '93 Rev F. It sounds really nice, and it came with some old Tesla EL34s!

Is that a Mark III tranny? Who made the xformers in these? The company in Chicago?

Finally got my hands on an Early '90s Dual Recto - Help ID

Well, finally got the chance to own the amp that made me fall in love with Mesa's Recto tone from the beginning of my days as a teenager... and I was wondering what you guys know about this particular one. I JUST received it today so I haven't had a chance to peek inside, but from the outside...

PICS of DC-3 bias mod with bias test points

Very nice! My DC-2 studio caliber ran waaaaay too hot for today's production tubes so I know where you're coming from.

Send me a PM for DC Cartel member number logo

I see a few new members asking for DC Cartel membership in the old thread, but the logo making responsibilities have been passed on to me. I am hoping there's a way to let everyone know this so they can get a signature logo, if they so desire...

    MKIV Mid Pot Value/type??

Michael Taylor found out the part numbers and values when I called Mesa up. Michael was extremely helpful and I don't give praise to customer service / tech support very easily.

Is this hardwood combo cab a real Boogie or not?

It looks real, and my guess is stained maple. The grain looks like a Maple wood, like many maple drums and guitar necks I have seen. I am no EXPERT on wood species, but I'm no Klutz either. The joints are Mesa. They only have one jointing machine. And, the design and parts are Mesa parts.

    Why were porcelain sockets discountinued?

I don't get to play with many amps, but I have worked on several Mesa's, and a couple others. Mesa definitely does cut corners quite often, as msi and others have said, but they still have their salient niche in the pro amp market. Their marketing has always been bad for anything other than just...

    EL84 Bias Values, crackling, etc....

Hey, I've been looking into this issue on my studio caliber / dc-2. I've talked to Patrick @ Mercury Magnetics, Myles Rose, read Aiken's site, and have been simulating circuits with some programs. The main issue is that the current production EL84's (even the JJ's which are the best current...

    EL84 Bias Values, crackling, etc....

EDIT: nevermind. The JJ EL84 is supposedly the best current production EL84, but things change all the time. The 2003 JJ EL84 spec sheet (not sure how much they've changed production since then) shows a max plate voltage of 300v and typically 48mA current, but like most new productions 12AX7's...

How to increase bass on DC 3

It is possible to mod the voicing, but I am not familiar with DC-3 mods off the top of my head. Maybe Monsta-Tone has some worked out for a DC-3. Bass frequencies require a lot more power to create the perceived volume increase than mid and treble frequencies, so power section has a small part...

Has anybody realized that Studio Cal's have transistors in t

Yeah, not sure if someone already said it, but the Studio Caliber has a fixed tone stack inbetween 2nd and 3rd gain stage on the Lead channel, and I didn't even bother trying to figure out what the transistors set to flat EQ are doing exactly. Right now, I have a temporary toggle switch that...

Has anybody realized that Studio Cal's have transistors in t

If none of you have realized it yet, I was more shocked that the Studio Caliber had transisters in it because A) it doesn't have a graphic EQ, and B) it's a lower-end model, and more components means higher price tag, although I knew the recording circuit had to have some sort of solid state...

Has anybody realized that Studio Cal's have transistors in t

Well there you go... the guy who likes old women with fake boobs thinks it sounds great.........

So Pleased! Studio Cal. sounds like a real amp now. modded.

I was happy with it before, but man it sounds like a dynamic, versatile, rootsy tube amp now. Only one issue, the Lead Gain is pretty much useless. I will continue to tweak the tone a bit, but I am pleased with myself for sure. What I did, and am not entirely done yet is remove all of the extra...

    Studio Caliber DC-2

MikeBs, I don't think the schematic shows what you need to know for the foot switch. The info that you need is that you need to wire the channel switching circuit very particularly: It needs to have a 3.3k resistor (not sure of the importance of value) between the cathode of the LED and the tip...
