Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

John, I am not sure I got everything in my instructions as I think I was missing page 3 (I had duplicates of page 2 stapled together). So here are a couple of ideas based on your suggestions to me. I got a before photo in my instructions. An after picture would have been useful (I saw the one...

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

Unfortunately I didnt' take a bias reading before making the change. I wish I had just for comparison reasons. But in truth, I was so disatisfied with the sound of the stock Stiletto, I was ready to get rid of it at any cost. My initial reaction towards the revised amp is that I am just...

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

Finally!! I got a result. I did buy a new meter and it appears that the meter was the problem. So I set the bias to just under 39mA based on what I have read so far above. I was using a Strat with Van Zandt Rock pickups to test with, which is not a guitar I would use to assess a Stiletto, or any...

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

I spent a bit of time this afternoon and resoldered the joints onto the circuit board. I really just moved them with a freshly tinned and pointed iron. I am sure they are good. The negative voltage readings at pin 5 are still exactly the same. I turned the bias pot 20 turns clockwise until it...

    Mark V headshell

Cornford build all their speaker cabs from pine for tone reasons. I use one and it's great. So pine would be strong enough. If you are a 100% committed, then you could just cut down your combo shell.

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

Well, I have looked at my soldered joints for the mod kit to the board, and they are rock solid. After reading Johns post about the ground connection hidden behind the circuit board that comes loose when you remove the resistor, I am reluctant to reheat the joints unless I am certain they are...

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

John, I tried the test you detailed above using the DCV meter set at 200. I got a result of 31.7 volts. I turned the bias pot in each direction to see if the reading changed and it did, but I had to turn it several rotations to get a whole volt of movement. To get to the stock reading of 38 I...

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

At the moment I have to assume John is right and I have screwed up the meter. The amp still works as it did before, plus I got the exact same result on my Marshall. If the mod kit wasn't soldered in properly surely it would have some negative affect on the sound? I have not had a chance to try...

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

I will find another meter and try that. Thanks for the help John.

Bias Mod installed. Need a bit of help.

I have installed the Bias Mod Kit from Mansfields in my Stage 1 Stiletto. I took a reading using the Bias Probe before and after using Mansfields instructions, but I am not getting anything that makes sense to me. Am I using the wrong meter setting? Any other DCA settings give me a zero reading...

    Adjustable-Bias-Kit in Stiletto GREAT SOUND!

I finally got my bias mod kit today ($13.45 Priority Mail from the USA - Mansfields please note). I should be able to find some time over the weekend to play with it. I am very interested to see what it does for the crappy Stiletto lead tone, but since I had my first band rehearsal last night...

Should I trade my Mark III for a Deuce I?

I have had a Deuce stage 1 for some time now. I have tried unsuccessfully to sell it for months as they are clearly not popular. So the other guy can't believe his luck that someone would take it in trade for a MarkIII.

    treble!!!

I am a relative newcomer to Mesa amps, in spite of being on my 4th one. The tone controls, and indeed all the other tone shaping options included on these amps, are pretty incredible. But after a lifetime of playing Marshalls, whenever I plug into one now I feel that the tone controls don't...

New Mark V owner moving over from the Stiletto.

A used (barely) Mark V came up for sale locally, which is pretty unusual considering I live on Exmoor. I went to check it out and could not beleive my ears. All the nonsense I have been struggling with to get anything I liked out of my Stiletto became instant history. I had to have it. So an...

    Adjustable-Bias-Kit in Stiletto GREAT SOUND!

I just bought a Mark V. So my Stiletto is for sale in the UK. I will include the bias pot mod with the amp for interested parties.

    Adjustable-Bias-Kit in Stiletto GREAT SOUND!

I haven't received it yet. In fact, it has not arrived at the Florida address yet. Mansfields were pretty slow at shipping the unit. I will install it myself. I don't know anybody else I would trust with it.

    Combo or Head???

I am currently researching buying a Mark V to replace my Stiletto. I have traditionally used separate head and cabs (2x12 Cornford). Being in the UK there are not a lot of Mark V's around, and most of them seem to be combos. I realise I can add my cab to the combo anytime, but what opinions are...
