I think you have to see it as the AMP is ON when in UP position. Not the STANDBY that is "on" :-)

Owning an F30 combo, and a Single Rectifier, I agree 100%. EASY to get great, various tones out of the F-series! (that counts for the single recto as well!) b.r. andershoeg

don't know about the yellow-jackets. but I changed the stock el84 in my f30 to JJ's. Like them alot. Better than the stock ones. "sounds "fuller". Hard to describe I think. But they are not pricey. So they may be worth giving a shot. b.r. andershoeg

There is a switch on the single recto that you can toggle between 6L6 or EL34 tubes. b.r. andershoeg

try to check the metal-covers around the preamp tubes. maybe they are loose. rmember my own f30 did that. as i recall, that was the problem. never had the problem since.

Can't speak for the Studio, but I have got the F30. Really nice amp. You can probably find a lot of good info on it in here. Haven't tried a 5:25, but I think they are as close as it gets, soundwise. But someone else must correct me if I'm wrong. The 5:25 took the F30's place in the Mesa line up...

Mmm...same here! Wish I had the money though. I have a 2x12" 3/4 back Mesa cab. Together with my F30 combo, it definitely gives it a whole new sound. Much fuller and bass'y. But I don't think that a thiele will help you get a much cleaner sound. Still think that single coils is your friend :)...

Yes, Louisbc82 is right. The f30 is really loud as well. not as loud as the recto, but it can be very "disturbing" (for the rest of the family, that is! ;) ). I would definitely also check out the new express! looks very interesting, especially with the 25->5 watts option! b.r. andershoeg
