The blown fuse happens instantly. I had done the Reeder mods and then returned it to stock but I made sure there was no issues with bad connections, etc.
Then I put in the original Boogie tubes that came in the amp ( I had retubed it) and that's when I couldn't get the power to come on...
I tried this mod yesterday and while it did clear away the mud very well I also found that it introduced a harshness that i did not care for. I put it back to the original mud configuration.
The clean channel is stunning though.
I have been using an Xotic BB Preamp for channel 2 (mostly) but I find it to be a very compressed sounding pedal. The tone is nice and I keep the gain down but it really squashes the sound.
Anybody have any suggestions for an overdrive pedal that is not so compressed sounding?
I am slowly getting used to my Lonestar and I am finding that it really sounds best when it is at moderate to loud levels.
But I have also found that instead of cranking the drive and gain knobs I can get savage distortion by turning up the Masters high and bringing down the Output. That...
I have been experimenting, and struggling, with Ch 2 and tonight I found a killer setting: Drive at full, Gain at 10-11 O'clock.
It is a very Fenderish cranked-but-clear tone. Add some overdrive to it from a pedal and it gets very sweet.
Well perhaps if I have some time I'll take the back off the Marshall cab and see how it sounds.
I am running the Lonestar with the bass and mid almost turned off (on the dirty channel) and it still has lots of bass and mid. It sounds really great turned up!
I find the Ch2 to be very good in many ways (this amp is very rich in tone!) but agree that has a loose bass sound and can be very thick and dark. The Reeder mod is interesting to me for this reason.
My question - when this mod is done will I still have as much gain available on Ch2...
I see some people are putting some lower gain 12AT7s in the Lonestars in some positions. Since it is not a "high" gain amp why would the 12AT& be desirable?
Or is it a tonal change? Thanks.
This amp is got a lot going on !! By using the "master" volumes and the "output" at various different levels I am finding so many stunning sounds. It is going to be a very musical piece of gear i think.
I guess it is just a bit of culture shock coming from the high gain Marshall...
I had a short time tonight to play with this Lonestar head and I find the clean tones on Ch 1 to be really superb. Stunning really, especially with single coils. Killer reverb too.
The Ch 2 is going to take a bit more time to explore because it seems like a lot of complex medium gain tones...
I am getting freaked out reading about people modding the channel 2 and so on but I liked what I heard in the store.
Of course I know that after you live with an amp for a while things can change.
I will try using the great booster that is built into my Radial Loopbone to juice up the...
Hi all. I traded my Marshall JVM 410 for a used Lonestar 100 watt head but it has not arrived yet. I am very much looking forward to this!
I tried a 1 x 12 combo out which is what sold me on the amp. Beatiful tones and it seems like it will simple to use live. I'll use the head through a 2 x...
