How are the cleans with EL34s?

I am now tempted to try the EL34s but I don't want to lose those sweet Ch 1 clean tone(s). Do these tube swaps really make THAT much difference? If they do I am going to do it because I really like this amp even with the stock tubes.

Finally had a chance to turn it up!

I took the amp to a recording session today which is the first time I have been able to crank it to moderate volume and it sounded amazing! No more doubts about this baby! I think playing it at bedroom volume simply was not allowing the amp to breathe. The Mark IV lead tone and the Mark IIC...

Sometimes the Mark V Sounds Great and Sometimes...

I am running a 2x12 Marshall cab loaded with "Silver Series" Celestion G12-80s. The cab is 4 ohms but I was plugged in to the 8 ohm output. It just seemed kind of ratty sounding. Maybe my mood that day.

Sometimes the Mark V Sounds Great and Sometimes...

I just noticed that my Mark V was hooked up "wrong". I had my 4 ohm cab plugged into the 8 ohm speaker output. Maybe it is my mind playing tricks but i swear it sounds much better. Is that possible?

    General delay question

Thanks Steve. I will look into those. I love my Line 6 but it can only go in front of the input.

Sometimes the Mark V Sounds Great and Sometimes...

I feel the same! One day the Mark 5 is amazing. The next day I can't get a good tone that is not harsh and buzzy. Except the clean channel- it is always great. I would think about trading it but it is the best amp my local store carries. Maybe I need new speakers or something. I have...

    General delay question

Hi Mejoshi. I have not experimented too much so i will do some more before I write off the Line 6 in the loop. The problem was that I couldn't get enough level from the Line 6. However, I have been told that Line 6 modeling pedals generally don't work well in effects loops. The pedals...

    General delay question

I tried running a Line 6 DL4 in the loop but it doesn't work very well in the loop at all.

    General delay question

Now that I am really digging this Mark V I am trying to get things sounding as good as possible. Is it a better sound to put the delay in the effects loop, as opposed to putting it in front of the amp? Thanks.

May sound silly but worth a try anyone consider...

The problem is just what SteveO says - you would have to do some major EQing for it to work. ie. The Mark 1 is awesome but if you switched to "Edge" without serious EQ changes it would be bad sounding. Cool idea though.

    Finally got my Mark V.

Congrats!! I just got one a week ago and this is a killer amp. There are tons of classic tones and the longer I play with it the better I like it. You can tweak your brains out. I can't wait to hear it at stage volume. Have fun!

    Any converts from the Lonestar?

I had the Lonestar Classic head but I am very happy I changed to the Mark V. At first i thought I was missing the clean Ch from Lonestar but not anymore. The V has as good a clean Ch and better (for me) distortions. The Lonestar can't be beat for cleans and reverb though.

    Lonestar defector

Now that I have played this Mark V for a week I am loving the clean channel. It is as good as the Lonestar.

    The Mark V is amazing!

Congrats on the new Boogie! I find the clean Channel to be breaking in or something - it is getting that sparkling high end. Of course I am running the masters at around 1 o clock lately and that may bring it to life a bit more. It is very good clean tone! Great reverb.

    The Mark V is amazing!

No I had to trade the Lonestar. I would like to have a dozen amps but I always trade to reduce the cost a bit. I think I can get by with the Mark V!

    The Mark V is amazing!

I bought a Mark V head and brought it home. Then I got a bad head cold and I couldn't get a decent tone from the amp! Hahaha! My ears were plugged up I guess. The cold is gone and the tones are amazing! I first thought the clean was not quite good as the Lonestar but now I'm not so sure...

    Lonestar defector

The Lonestar Classic head I just traded had the best clean tone on Earth but I couldn't get comfy with the dirty channel. So, I traded today for a new Mark V and it is amazing. It will take some time to get into it I think. The options are stunning. Great clean channel also. i will...
