Can anyone explain the main tone differences of a roadster?

Hi, So i'm in the Mark League for a while. Almost bought another Mark IV but I thought I should have some change. So I saw a dual rec in the local ad for 1000 and almost went for it. Then I find most of you guys prefer the roadster. Can anyone explain what the main differences are besides the...

    MARK IV DISCONTINUED (FOR REAL)

Here's a photo that guy posted. From what we can see it's still the classic slanted front design which I really dig.

What would you buy with US$ 3000?

Why can't you buy a mark IV? It only costs 1800 new. (well now it's out of production.) I would wait till the Mark V comes out and have it shipped to your country.

Does Roadster have more gain the the DR's?

A dealer here told me that the roadster and roadking have more gain in the preamp stage than the normal DR or TR's. Is this true? I did see a video of Petrucci playing straight into a RK at a clinic without any boost pedals and the lead tone sounds amazing. I can never get enough gain on my old...

Does triaxis+2:90 sound tighter than the rectifiers?

I was listening to all the dream theater albums the other day and notice the rhythm on "Images and words" sound so much tighter than "Train of thought". I've never heard a triaxis in person so I don't really know how it sounds like. But from the album, it almost has a Mark type of sound to me...

a little scare last night with the Mark IV

Mine had the same trouble before when i tried to put in my vox tonelab for the effects in the loop. when I turn on the loop from the footswitch, the volume drops and all the lows are sucked away even with nothing plugged in to the effect loop. I replaced the preamp tube that controls the...

New Mark IV - Rhy1 Channel very low

something's definitely wrong here. What's your R1 gain set at? It's going to affect the volume a great deal. I set my R1 channel vol to only 3-4 and it will match the L channel at volume 2 and gain at 8 pulled.

    Mark IV losing sound occasionally

Guys, I appreciate your prompt replies. First, Rabies, I read the same thing in Mesa's manual saying that I can "up" match. (8 going to 16 ohm cabs). And they said Mesa amps are not very sensitive to mismatching. It's perhaps how mesa built their amps. I do know that down matching is a big no...

    Mark IV losing sound occasionally

Hi, I'm running my mark IV to a 16 ohm cab through the 8 ohm output. Last night all of a sudden the amp went dead silent. Checked the cables and everything and still no sound. Turned the amp off and back up, the sound came back but faded out in 5 secs. Tried this several times same issue...

    Mark IV humming pls help

Hi, Just recent put my MK IV into a head shell. Find that when I bring my guitar close to the head (only the head, not the speakers), I observe a loud humming. (this stops when I start strumming). When I turn down the volume on the guitar, the hum is gone. (even in the lead channel with the...

could you check your channel eq? If the lead treble/bass/mid are all 0, you will get a clean sound even if your gain are set to 10

    MarkIV vs Recto tone...

Maybe the Mark IV is lacking bass and thus you said it sounds "thin"? But man, the Mark IV is so much tighter sounding than the recto. The rectifier clip you had sounds too blurry.

New video up (my brother and I playing some DT).

I would've thought this is the real dream Theater. You totally nailed it. The original guitar is slightly brighter but yours sound amazing also. If you don't mind, may I ask how you miked your amp?

Need help with my MK IV

I had the exact problem and first all of channels start to sound very bad and the fuse blew and you can see one of the power tubes is buring red. So i replaced the power tubes (bought the matched ones at guitar center) and everything works fine since.

Zorran type of tone with Mark IV

I'm using an Audix I-5 which I like better than a 57. But it's still a standard dynamic mic. I need to try the Sennheiser MD 421.

Zorran type of tone with Mark IV

Ok, didn't really try to immitate Zorran but tried his settings today on my mark IV. EQed the sound to bring out the highs (due to the single miking with a dynamic mic). It's brighter than Zorran's sound but still tolerable. Using a Peavey 412MS cab. Excuse me for the sloppy playing. Just some...

Loss of crunch on the Mark IV...

This may not be your problem but once I accidentally turned down the treble on the lead channel to 5. All my gain was gone. I freaked out and changed the tubes but nothing happens until i turn my treble back to 8.
