Mkiic+ problem: STILL can't get a clean tone

Thanks for the reply. It starts breaking up at 6 on channel, 2-3 on Master. This is a setting that used to be clean and strong. It's now strong but slightly dirty.

Mkiic+ problem: STILL can't get a clean tone

I have an '84 Mkiic (now a '+'): 60/100, EQ, Reverb, EVM 12". I recently sent it to Mesa for Mike B. to mod to '+' (GREAT customer experience BTW). Since I got it back I haven't been able to get close to the clean headroom I was used to. Because one of the power tubes was bad when I got it back...

    Mkiic+ problem: Can't get a clean tone

I went out this AM and really looked at the tube (should have done that right away :D ). The top is white not silver and if I put the tube in another socket it doesn't light up whereas the tube I move to the socket it was in does. My apologies, I should have done this experiment first, duh...

    Mkiic+ problem: Can't get a clean tone

So, I would be looking down into the circuitry once I pulled the chassis? I.e. as if I'm looking down through the top of the amp? The only wierd thing about that would be that it just got back from Mesa. Boogiebabies, are you thinking it's not the power tubes and that the power tube is not...

    Mkiic+ problem: Can't get a clean tone

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean I should swap out the pre-amp tubes one at a time before I change out the power tubes? You probably understood this but it is the power tube (far right looking at back of amp) that isn't lighting up. To reply to another post: guitar cord, etc. are working fine...

    Mkiic+ problem: Can't get a clean tone

I have an '84 Mkiic+ [1]. I just got it back from Mesa where Mike B. did the '+' mod. (BTW...Mesa was great to deal with and Mike B. spent a lot of time on the phone with me talking about amps, etc. Great customer service). I sent all the tubes with the amp and Mike said he thought they were ok...

Adding a '3rd channel' to my Mk IIC

First wanted to see: this is a great forum. I've gotten great info from it and I'm more appreciative than ever about having my Mk IIC (I'm original owner). So here's a question: I want a way to add a 'clean' lead sound to my arsenal; basically a boost I can kick-in when I'm using ch 1. I guess...

    Mk IV vs. Roadster combo

I've been reading the manuals for both the Mk IV and the Roadster. The Roadster 1x12 [1] seems to be VERY versatile. However, I don't know much about the Rectifier series but some have told me they are more of the compressed Metal sound; this is not for me; I'm a jazz/rock/blues player who needs...

MkIIC: '+' or not '+'? Mystery solved

Good questions: There are two mods: '+' and 'Simul'. -The '+' mod will change a Mk IIC to be a Mk IIC+. -There was a time when the Simul mod would have changed a Mk IIC (+ or otherwise) from a 60/100 (see below) to a Simul-class. -The Mk IIC Simul-class used (I think) a different output...

MkIIC: '+' or not '+'? Mystery solved

I didn't get a price on the Simul mod (the '+' mod is $400). I'm deciding to skip it because it wouldn't bring the amp to Mk IIC+ Simul spec so, yes, I guess partly for collectibility. But also because I like the 60/100 sound enough that if I want to go for a modern tranny simul sound perhaps...

    Simul envy

When I bought my Mk IIC (not '+' but soon to be sent to Mike B for mod) in 1984 I was in an original band with a Police-esque band (but with funk not reggae as the underlying beat). When I talked to the sales person they suggested the 60/100 would be fine. Since then I've had buyer's remorse...

MkIIC: '+' or not '+'? Mystery solved

If you read my previous thread on Mk IIC I have this amp [1]. I'm the original owner and have been very happy with the amp for 22 years. I spent a bunch of time on the phone with Mike B at Mesa today and here's what I learned: -My amp is NOT a '+' --Mike B. suggested the effects return test [2]...

Question: Used Mk IV: Price, Model

I've heard about a used Mk IV for $1350. Don't know what year it is yet. Questions: -Any concerns about buying a used Boogie or Mk IV? -Is the price reasonable? -Are there particular years/serial numbers I should look for or look to avoid? Thanks for your help.

Mk IIC '+' Mod: What is it?

Thanks; perfect information. I have the clearance from 'the boss' for the Mk IV; now I just have to sell her on the Mods (or maybe just go with the mods). I Evans I'll probably sell; lovely amp but I should be able to get a good jazz sound out of the Mk IV.

Mk IIC '+' Mod: What is it?

I'm having so much fun here I thought I'd start another thread :) Seriously, would anybody mind looking at these questions? -What (semi-technically) does the '+' mod for a IIC do? -How does it affect the amp? -What is the ~ wait time for getting it done? -In what situations? (e.g. clean...

Question: Should I mod my Mkii c

I'll try to get those pictures; thanks for all the help. I'll also talk to Mike B. next week; if it's not a +, I'll send it out for Mod.

Question: Should I mod my Mkii c

Wow, the helpful info keeps coming! Thanks! A few more (sorry :) Can I see the date without removing the chassis? By e.g. taking my head (human one) off and shoving it upside down into the back of the amp with flashlight in teeth? Could you describe in more detail what bringing the circuit to...

Question: Should I mod my Mkii c

Wow, more great info. A few questions for boogiebabies: -Which is the chassis? -Where can I find the manufactured date? -I received the Settings page with a date of 4/11/84 in the bottom right. Does that mean anything? -How do you feel about the + mod? -If you were buying a new Boogie what...

Question: Should I mod my Mkii c

This is very helpful info. I'll call Boogie tomorrow and see what they have to say. Anybody have any thoughts on whether my amp is actually a IIC+? I just spent the evening out in the garage playing through my amp (1996 Parker Fly Deluxe is the guitar) and I have to say: I actually do LOVE my...

Question: Should I mod my Mkii c

-It has a black mark over the power cord but it's not clearly a '+' -It has initials under the power cord; could be MB -It has a Pull Deep on Master 1. Per this page [1] that would make it a IIC+ -I bought the amp sometime in 1984; ordered it from Boogie -The settings page I got is dated 4/11/84...
