LSC/LSS owners; are you happy with channel2?Want to fix it?

This has been an interesting thread. I would be interested in trying the mod but not at the expense of my warranty. Mesa's warranty is a valuable part of the product. I like the sound of ch 2 enough as it is and think there is more work to be done to get it write. However, I have never loved it...

LSC/LSS owners; are you happy with channel2?Want to fix it?

A very interesting thread. A point on marketing: Mesa advertises ch. 2 as this: >>> Channel 2 has a split personality. At the flick of a switch, it can clone the clean magic of Channel 1 (with an added touch of blues-roots gain) or kick in an additonal high-gain amplifier with its own dedicated...

Question: Which amp stand to buy for LSS and LSC

I have both Lone Stars. I have been putting them on the floor at some gigs and this doesn't work out well. I'm not hearing things right. What stand does anybody recommend? Critieria: -Adjustable enough to get the amp into a good position -Sturdy enough to safely hold an LSC 2x12 -Sized (or...

    New LLS owner!

The sound: Maybe the tubes? Mine sounds great; haven't heared the YouTube videos. 5-15-30: There is a noticeable but not incredible difference in volume for me. Not as much as on my LSC. If you've got the Output way counter-clockwise perhaps you're not going to be able to hear the difference...

    Best Mesas for low volumes?

+1 on this. Five watts gets great sounds a a variety of volume levels; I think the LSC sounds great for certain things at lower volumes. That's one of the reasons I'm keeping it over a Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr.

Petrucci's Lone Star settings (and Mark iv)

Bottle rocket posted these on the Vintage forum: I tried the Lone Star settings; both very good for me. The ch 1 settings was a little bright with my Parker; the ch 2. is the closet I've heard to Mark-ish type of lead sound. Two interesting things; 1) the ch 1 setting is not super, super...

Question: Matching the tube 'color' batch

Update: I read the Mesa tube box (duh!) and it says as long as inners and outers match things are mine. Make sense to everybody? So I swapped in the other new tube so they now look like this: Grey Yellow Yellow Grey New original original New Interestingly, I think I noticed a power...

Question: Matching the tube 'color' batch

Further info; I've run the amp for a couple of hours with the following tubes; view is looking into back of amp (you're not upside down so amp left is the fuse); this only shows the 4 6L6, not the rectifier: Yellow Yellow Yellow Grey original original...

Question: Matching the tube 'color' batch

I had a rattling power tube in my LSC. Mesa sent me a new pair. The new one's are color batch 'Gry'; the one I'm replacing is color batch 'Yellow' Rich at Mesa didn't ask about color batch which seems to indicate its not a big deal. However, the manual says I should match batch color. -Is...

    Mark iv - first impressions

I'm trying out a used Mark iv; not sure what year but of relatively recent vintage; front and back panel match the current manual with a slight difference on the back. First impressions (as an LSC, LSS, and Mkiic+ owner); these are based on about 20 minutes at home starting from the first...

    Question: Tube rattle

Rich at Mesa has sent me new output tubes; I'll try them soon. He was kind enough to include a bunch of spare preamp tubes and fuses. Customer service from Mesa has always been great for me

    Mk iv questions

This is a nice concise summary, thanks. So per this, I should be hesitant to sell my Mkiic+ on pure sound. The ch. 2 and the versatility are key features. If the ch. 2 is not ripsnorting good I'm hesitant as I can always use LSC clean, Mkiic+ ch 1 overdriven for cruch and Mkiic+ ch 2 for lead...

    Mk iv questions

I have a line on a used Mk iv for $1200. I'm not sure what year but it is almost identical (but not exactly; some rear panel differences) to the picture on the Boogie site. My questions: -I already have these Mesa's: '84 Mkiic(modded to)+, LSC, LSS ---Any need to add a Mk iv? -----Ease of use...

    Question: Tube rattle

I have a 6 month old LSC that hasn't been used heavily (I use my LSS more). I am hearing rattle when I play; it seems to definitely be tubes. I'm assuming it's power tubes. Here's the basic info: -Rattle is more pronounced for certain notes -Rattle does not come through the spearkers; i.e. I...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

Just to be clear: this ("Power tubes have little effect on tone") is not my statement (I, GeoBull) this is the statement of my aquaintence, one with which my experience leads me to disagree.

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

I'm not doing anything scientific; I have an LSC and an LSS; I've A/B'd them and used each one in different situations. I also own a Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr. and a Mk ii c+. I've owned one and played a fair number of Marshalls (=EL34s) and test drove an Ace (=EL34s). I've played a ton of Fenders and...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

Seriously, I guess the key point here is when is a tube clipping? It must be earlier than the point at which we hear break-up or distortion; that's what at even low volume levels power tubes have unique sounds. I don't know enough about tube amps and electronics but I'm reading through the...

Mythbuster? Power tubes have little effect on tone

An acquaintance of mine has made the following assertion (see [1] below). This is counter-intuitive to me and doesn't match my experience; my response is at [2] below. This is a smart guy; he works in scientific research and builds amps on the side. I would love to hear your thoughts on this...

Question: Buying a 5Y3 tube for LSS - ANSWERED

Per conversation with Mike Taylor at Mesa: -Only the 5Y3 should be used in LSS; not the 5U4G or 5U4GB -LSC should not use the 5Y3; it should use 5U4G -5Y3 isn't available on online store (don't know why) -You can order 5Y3 by calling Mesa
