I want ZERO overdriven power tubes... SUGGESTION?

a sovtek LPS is a great PI tube. so is the mullard cv4024

Is there an inexspensive and reliable way to test tubes...

where at in central pa? im routinely up my camp near parker off of route 80...i dont have all that tube testing equip posted above me, but the one i have works well and is calibrated recently. i can test those three types, and probably any others you might have if you're in need of knowing...

I want ZERO overdriven power tubes... SUGGESTION?

get a bias mod for it for like 40 bux. then just use 6550's in it.

Mesa "STR440"? Need some help from you guru rollers!

yeah,i only have one issue, but can't figure out if it's amp related, or tube related. after about 3 hours of constant play at gig volume, my amp starts to get pretty mushy in a way i dont like (i think due to the heat)....its hard to explain...it doesn't sound as big and boisterous, rather...

Better tubes allow for more release of overtones?

another vote for the mullard 4024. really, sounds great in any position, but superb as a PI or reverb tube. if you're wanting to tame your gain, depending on your amp, v1 or v2 or 3...hell, try one in all slots. they resale pretty close to retail even used.

Attenuator for Mark V - bedroom player

anytime you're reducing your power, or changing your output ratio, you will have some kind of tone change for less or better YMMV. sometimes, like i said, i like the power tube response of my amp on 10 watts with maximum attenuation....yes, the amp changes and responds differently, but, you...

Attenuator for Mark V - bedroom player

i disagree, but not snobbishly. i use my attenuator in a 10 watt mode on my amp and it further reduces the amp's volume but still works the power section. 10 watts can be quite loud actually....and reducing it with the volume plug with both switches on allows me to get some power tube voice in...

Mesa "STR440"? Need some help from you guru rollers!

i've used the groove tube 5881/ 6l6r (sovteks) rated 4-7 for about 10 or 12 hours. i dont love them but they'd get me through a gig. at gig volumes, they feel mushy and slower than at lower volumes, which, i dont like at all for my style of playing. they are fizzy if you push them hard (when...

    Microphonic Tube Question

yeah it lights up, but i still have to tap it. other tubes work fine, so im pretty sure the socket is stable. i can use it at home and for recording in v1 or v3....but i won't roll the dice at a gig as the RFT i have in there now sounds perfect too..just different perfect!

    Microphonic Tube Question

what about a tube that i install, then have to tap on to have it "come to life". it's a baldwin sylvania 9 hole on the plate...and it sounds like heaven..but i have to reach in almost every time to tap it to life....and even then, sometimes it takes 5 minutes to warm up enough to where i can...

    12ax7 of 12at7 in p1

mullard cv4024 is a good tube to tame things on the gain side, but improve clarity and color.

Master volume in individual channel question.

i had a hard time getting used to this too....it's generally referred to as one of the "sweet spots", or, at least i refer to it as such when talking volume/gain.

Mullard ecc83 in V1 anyone? and Phase Inverter??

sovtek lps for the PI. some would argue for matched sections. i noticed a difference. roll them in and out, see what sounds best. dont pigeonhole your tube thinking into just "having this left over so i'll just throw it in there" keep chasing that dragon!!!!

Help me brainstorm a tube problem on my Mark V

check your power at the wall... is it periodically being reduced due to a furnace, or some other item on the circuit pulling harder on the electrical load? light dimmers in some other part of the house? wife running the blow dryer?

I'm starting to HATE Mesa Boogie

i wouldn't even bother dude. email tien, or pm through the site. describe all your problems....it wont cost you "phone" money to do so. why in God's name are you still fucking around with these "local" tech guys who CLEARLY dont know wtf they're doing with YOUR amp. Just deal with boogie in...
