Finally settling into disappointment with the Roadster

Indeed. I happen to know exactly what you're talking about...I play a huge variety of music and need vastly different tones. That's the downfall of versatility is that it never does any single tone 100% perfect. I'm hoping to be able to get out and try a Mark IV soon. And about the...

Finally settling into disappointment with the Roadster

Finally settling into disappointment with the Roadster So after a couple of months, I'm noticing a few points about the Roadster I'm not liking. First, contrary to the typical heavy bass characters I would associate with rectififers, this amp is directly opposite. I've never had a problem...

boutique pedal brands? Build Your Own Clone? What's Good

Build your own clone puts out a very high quality product. It's also a great starting point for understanding effects. There are several effects that I like but there are a few things about them I would like to change...BYOC is great for understanding how those components work together and how...

Who Plays Straight Into Their Mesa?

I do when the mood strikes, but recently, I got rid of my Morley BH-2 wah (which I hated...horrible tones) and got a 535Q. I also just built a Ross compressor clone, and that thing is so increadible it just stays on all the time. Also, Danelectro Daddy-O Echo is always on in the effects loop...

    roadster complaints and praises

I've had my Roadster now for a few months and I haven't seen any of those problems in my amp. Every now and again, I'll get a pop when switching to channel 3. The reverb fade in isn't really a big problem because I don't use much reverb...I use a delay in the loop and that's always on...

Who is your Fav. mesa player/endorsee?

I gotta say Andy Timmons. His tone is punchy but still very clean. The Resolution record has by far the best guitar tones I've ever heard. Also, Petrucci, mainly for his tone at the very end of Wishful Thinking (the wierd overdriven improv section).

Roadster for Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, SRV, Ultra High Gain

As far as a great high-gain vai/satch tone, yeah, it's in the amp. I lean more towards the Petrucci lead tones though, but the higher-midrange satch tone is there with a little more presence and mids.

What's a good multi-effects unit for the Road King II?

I'm using the GT-8 with the Roadster. I had to completely re-configure the unit (create a new INIT patch) with the levels worked out. I can post it if you're interested in trying it. The trick is getting the levels right. After setting it up, I couldn't be happier with the results (I'd be...

Roadster for Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen, SRV, Ultra High Gain

I can easily get into SRV/Mayer/Hendrix land on my Roadster - channel 2 brit mode with medium gain and 100 watt/tube rectifier mode. Don't really need my tube screamer to get more out of the amp, I usually just crank the solo control a little to give me a little extra for solos.

QUESTION: Amp channel switching using multi-fx processor?

Yes, both of those units can switch channels, but in a limited capacity. First of all, you would need to have an amp that has external switching capabilities like the triple rec or road king. The G-Major only has the ability to switch 2 functions that use a tip to sleeve ground short to...

Which modern player do you think has that grail tone???

Andy Timmons hands down. His tone on the entire resoltion record is simply increadible. Talk about string definition, it's like his entire guitar and rig just breathe together.

Most outragous Mesa ever built, owned or saw

The wildest I've seen, and I sadly do not have pictures of this, was a triple rec. The tolex was stripped, the cab sanded and the entire cab was chrome plated. A custom chrome grille was installed with vents all the way across. Blue neons were installed behind the grilled and knobs with LED...

    Roadster & Speaker Type

I went with the roadster 2x12 cab because it had the most punch, low end and was the most portable of the bunch. I've never been happy with Marshall cabs, they seem to "flexy", like the wood just isn't solid enough.

    Rectifier Knobs

Thanks for the offer, but I'm looking for the silver ones. And $5 each...eeek...I guess it's not so bad, as I only need a few. Trying to pimp out a few guitars I have, and those giant, chrome recto knobs would do the trick.
