Dealing with hum issues in certain places

Obviously this tends to come with the territory for those of us that play the bar gigs. It used to be a bigger problem and I honestly haven't really dealt with it at all since I bought my Lonestar. However, last night I played a place (not a bar actually--a big hall) and no matter what we did or...

What Mesa bass rig do you use?

My wife and youngest son (11 yrs.) are the bass players in our house. This past year, in middle of a string of gigs, my wife's beloved Gallien-Krueger gave up the ghost (or so we thought at the time) forcing us to make the big leap. We had opened for a band last summer and my wife had used their...

tubes and running both channels at 50 watts

I just always keep the fan on. I figure it doesn't hurt. I'm not sure there can ever be a down side to keeping the tubes cool. Mark

tubes and running both channels at 50 watts

Ya...way over my head. I did find the little note on the back of the amp. Never saw that before. It does sound really good set up this way. I like the idea of only having to change out 2 tubes also every time. I actually had bought 6 anyway the last time I retubed so I had two spares. It was...

tubes and running both channels at 50 watts

I must have missed this part about the speaker loads in the manual. Any idea about why this is? Mark

tubes and running both channels at 50 watts

Just wondering how many people here run both channels on their LSC at 50 watts and how they work with tubes in this situation. My assumption is that in this case, it is just the two outside tubes that are working (correct?). Do you only replace those tubes when you retube? Have the inside tubes...

Drive knob higher than Gain knob?

That's the issue in fact. It does sound muddy and compressed with the gain higher then the drive. Reversing that situation fixes the siteation. Just try it. It also allows you to pump up the lows and highs a bit and to drop the presense (about 11:00 with a Les Paul seems to work). For a LP try...

How many mics do you use and what type?

Live I use a 57 close mic'd somewhere just to the outside the middle of the cone (maybe an inch or so from the outside edge). For recording I have experimented with 57s close mic'd and even an 58 for grins, but have settled on a 58 in a boom stand about 3 feet away and slightly above the amp...

Drive knob higher than Gain knob?

I am on thick. That really seems to do the trick and the mids are back down just above 9:00. Everything really seems to smoke with humbuckers and P90s without any real adjustment needed.

Pics from my gig this morning!

Nice stuff man. I'm not a big tele guy, but you have great tone and feel. Good tunes as well. She has a great voice. Must be a gas playing with her. Mark

Been playin 50w mode for awhile now.

Is it true then that the outer tubes are in use in 50 watt mode? It sounded like that was what you guys were saying. Mark

Drive knob higher than Gain knob?

So, I had a practice with my band today and it was the first time I have practiced or played a gig with the new amp settings. I'll have to see what happens with a mic on it but so far I am really happy. At practice levels it always seemed just a little processed and muddy sounding on channel...

Converting a combo to a head

Mark It's interesting you mention the Egnater. I have an Egnater Rebel 20. It's amazing. I actually run it next to my Lonestar. When I need the really tight higher gain sounds in my songs (punk influenced) I switch to the Egnater. Love it! It was the Rebel 20 they reviewed. They look...

Which Yellow Jackets for LSC? Also, amp settings for YJs

Could you explain the wattage drop with YJs? I'm just not seeing how using a different tube would change things that radically. Does it have to do with using EL84s?

Used my Lonestar for the first time with a band...

When you add keys to the mix it does add a whole lotta competition for the same sound space even at lower volumes. Cutting the lows does clean the mud some. Others have talked about adding presense and going to diodes rather then tube rectos. I can see the presense to some extent although it...

    Coping with the weight

...ah ya get a strong back or roadies :P Seriously. Although as far as roadies I tend to haul my own gear even if I have people to help. I'm just weird that way. It eliminates the "moron factor" as I tell my wife. Every thing that has ever been messed up with my gear or my wife's gear have...

    lonestar question

I like the slight difference between my clean channel on 100 watts and the drive channel on 50. The 100 watts feels a bit more glassy and fenderish. I also always use the Tweed setting for power. I just like the sound better then full and supposedly it saves tube life (not sure about this...

Converting a combo to a head

They are tough. Mine took a tumble off of a tiltback stand when the handle broke and landed face down on a concrete floor. That was about a year and a half and many gigs ago and we are still going strong. FYI: I first read about this amp in guitar player mag after they reviewed it and gave it...

    Another LSS channel 2 mod

I agree that the JJ tubes make a big difference overall. As I mentioned in other threads, the tube change, plus running my drive higher then the gain really changed things. I actually ended up turning the treble and presence down some to match things. I do have a LS classic though and I have no...

Do you guys elevate your amp?

I set the thing back, still on the casters, as far back against the a wall as possible, mic it and go. I used to have a set back stand that got it up to waist high, but getting it there was a pain, plus one of the last times I did it, the handle strap broke (no ****...Mesa replaced it, but...)...
