i had this debate myself for a while, the closest i came to a mark series sound in general is the mi audio tube zone!

my mark III had this problem when i had it, power supply filter caps was the cause, i tried the power tube changes but didnt help. you might wanna consider changing the filter caps. after all its a 20+ year old amp

if you just changed the power amp tubes and problem just came up, you probably had a bad power tube installed.

my experience with the mark short head is bad. its almost impossible to change tubes coz of the space inside, and playing live, if something happens to the tubes, accessibilty is my friend. Plus, the medium head looks cooler on top of a cab than the short head.. really, just get the short head...

Its a short head that just got "cleaned-up and modded around april this year. Its housed on a new head and new reverb tank from boogie. Reverb boost mod, "turn brightness down a bit mod" on lead channel only, pentode-triode switch mod all done by Mike B himself. Cleaned up and filter caps and...

im using mi audio tube zone, its the closest to a mark series tone IMO, i plugged it straight to my mark IVs fx return and dialed and it was so very close, and the tube zone has a 4 clipping stage just like the mark preamp.

everything just seems tighter and cleaner! i sent it coz of the bad hum and get it fixed, but since its there, i asked mike b. to might as well do the pentode/triode mod, reverb mod and general maintenance. im glad i did. sent her in! thank me later. its a 4-6 week process

i like my red stripe mark III better than my mark IV!i have a thread on the vintage amps section with my red stripe in action, i cant get my IV to sound like that...
