Opinions on Mercury Magnetics Transformers for Mark IV

I for one would LOVE to get my hands on a MM 220V PT for my Mark IV. I emailed them 6 months ago about this and Patrick said that they were not making anything for Mark IV at the moment. Have they changed their policy?

    Newbee 6L6 question - I've blown one!

Hi there.. The GRN (green) and GRY (grey) are color codes. They refer to the bias range of the tube. Some draw more current than the rest. Change all of them at the same time. According to Mesa, it doesn't matter which color code the tubes are as long as they're all Mesa labeled tube and as...

Favourite choice of speaker for the MK IV 1x12" short combo

I myself like the EVM the best. Tried a black stripe Mark III combo with V30 2 years ago, and I like EVM the best. V30 is better for closed back cabs anyway. Have you tried changing the pre and power tubes instead? I think it's simpler and not as involving. I know that won't solve the...

    New Tubes for Dual Rec?

Shredd6 was referring to original Teslas which command somewhere between 80 to 100 bucks on ebay the last time I checked. JJ/Tesla is a different company. You might wanna download the manual from Mesa's website the get an idea what each tube position does (V1, V2 etc.).

Bands songs! Mark IV, Fender Twin etc

 Turbulent is the best song, though the singing on that one can be improved. I still think 110 bpm all the time can get a bit monotonous, all songs would seem to be the same. Yeah I know you get to 120 bpm from time to time.

Well I got my tube set from Dougs tubes tonight

Doug's reasoning is not really technical. He said something like, if you have all sorts of brands then you can experiment any order of tubes you like. He recommends this combo for any 5 pre-amp tube amp, so you can see that this combo will work for some people, and won't for others. So don't be...

Tone or skill ? What should come first ?

Floyd was already great without Gilmour. Not that I have anything against him.

Jon Schaffer - Iced Earth Tone w/ Dual Rectifier.

I'm not a Recto guy myself, but the tone you're looking for doesn't sound like what the Dual Rectifier alone can't achieve. I suggest you get rid of the multi effect, and read up the manual to get acquainted with channel 2 and 3. Most probably you'll need some kind of boost pedal to tighten up...

    The Mark IV-A Experience

Hetfield's IIC+'s are modified for more gain (++ mod). That's why he sets his gain so low.
