On a dual you can pull tubes to make it 50 watts because the ohm rating goes down evenly. On a triple when you pull the tubes the ohm rating is changing by 1/3 instead of 1/2 like on a dual.
I asked my local amp tech about this last time I had my triple in for service and he said it was a bad idea because it puts an odd ohm load on the output transformer.
