    Idea for a Studio .22 + mod.

That's the thing, if I go across the LDR1 contacts I'll be having V1 engaged. LDR1 (being open) is what's keeping V1 from being engaged. So I'd be introducing a pot in series with 470k to ground through the grids of V1. Anyway, haven't had time to try it yet.

    Idea for a Studio .22 + mod.

I considered that but I doubt that it wouldn't change the gain in the lead channel but it's worth a try. Thanks. I'm thinking that worst case scenario with my mod I'll have V1 bleeding into the clean function. Something similar happened when my DC3 had a bad vactrol keeping closed on the input...

    Idea for a Studio .22 + mod.

Hi all. Straight to the point version is below. I've had a DC3 combo that I've had forever and love. It's the only main amp I've ever owned for 20+ years. I recently got my hands on a Studio .22 + w/out EQ. I love the lead distortion when it's maxed out but I want to do the opposite of every...

20 years overdue for this DC3 trouble

According to an email reply from a tech at Mesa the replacements are 5C9. And according to another thread from 2011 there were a batch of bad LDR's that were installed in a bunch of amps in mid 90's. Also that Vactrol is a more reliable manufacture for them. Can someone tell me if you've had...

    Tremoverb LDR dating "problem" era

Well. F* me for just finding this thread. Anyway, my DC3 has "1995" written on one of the caps and it's got a bad LDR and it's been a pain since day 1 whenever the amp would run hot. So, you guys felt confident changing these out from the top of the board?

20 years overdue for this DC3 trouble

Will do. It was an 11 year old thread that got me this far so I'll try to pay it forward. So, is there anyone that can direct me to the right LDR I don't know if Mesa makes it hard to find some parts or they just want to have their own specs on their equipment. I've heard different opinions...

20 years overdue for this DC3 trouble

PING! And a small update in case anyone sees this. So I just ohm'd out the "switch" contacts for the LDR1 in question and it was reading at 23 ohms when physically hot and only went up to 28 ohms when cold. Both de-energized. I wasn't sure that I wasn't getting readings from the rest of the...

    Quiet DC-5

My 2c. I've had the same issue with other amps that have been sitting a while. Get a can of contact cleaner and carefully go to town on all the pots. Spray a dab inside the pot to get the sweeper wet and run the knob back and forth all the way several times. It could be as simple as a little...

20 years overdue for this DC3 trouble

Hi all, I'm a long time owner of an awesome DC3 that's had a gremlin since day 1. Side note, the loaner amp I had gotten in year 1 had the same problem. I've got a bit of ELT education and I'm a tech for a living but not for anything like tube amps. So this is half for hobby and half because...
