Wah and Volume Pedal Pairing Suggestions

I use the Tremonti Wah and a 25k Ernie Ball VP Jr in the loop. The Tremonti wah is a tad too subtle for me but I like the switchless operation and variable gain boost. Great for enhancing solos but not going to give you crazy wah tones.

    Power supply repair

That was my experience too. Seemed to be worse at my place (rarely at practice) but it was concerning since we had a few rare opps to play out and I was concerned it would do that during a show. Never did. Was hoping it was foot switch issue or bad AC. In addition to the relay chatter, I would...

Ticking sound when I turn the Mark V on

Had maybe the same thing (mine was def. the relays chattering). Was cured when had diodes in low voltage supply replaced (after they failed and amp wouldn't 'boot up'). With 12V supply working, never hear the tick or relay clatter on startup (even if I don't select a channel). Just throwing...

Dialing a Mark V lead channel to Mark IV

Amen brother. I don't really know why it sounds so good but it is pretty much always on for me too.

    Power supply repair

Something else that is curious, since this repair, I never get the dreaded relay chatter when coming out of standby. Didn't happen all the time but now it is totally calm when switching out of standby. Might be related?

    Power supply repair

Just a quick note to share some strange symptoms and what resolved them. I have a Mark V combo that started to do something strange every time I practiced. The amp would pop and then sometimes reset back to the startup (all channel lights on) or the pilot lights would flicker off and then back...

    New SPAX7 in V1 - sputtering

Thanks to all for the speedy replies. Yep broke the tube putting the cover back on (in a combo no less...). I'll try these suggestions. Didn't like the Tungsol in V1 (hard to explain, just didn't click). I've heard good things about it in other positions tho. Will try that out.

    New SPAX7 in V1 - sputtering

Recently was playing with Tungsol vs original Mesa tubes in V1 and broke my original factory tube (snapped the tip off, doh!). I ran with the Tungsol for a while but decided to try a new SPAX7 Mesa tube. Fine for a while but now have fairly regular sputtering and random hiss on all channels...

Mesa Mark V Tube Life Expectancy

I do the same exact thing. Never had to swap them at a gig but had a recto fail at practice (not a big deal as you can reconfigure around it).

    TC Tone Print Pedals

Ditto that - the TC pedals sound great and it is fun to try out the various tone prints via waving your smart phone over your pickups. Love the flashback, corona is used less but sounds great.

    Compressors

I use a Pigtronix Philosophers Tone for from time to time but think it really doesn't do it for me (thinking of getting a Carl Martin or Keeley). Pig does sound pretty amazing (in small doses) for more heavy-handed lead tones or when I want some thing for the wah to chew on. Since getting my...

    Still discovering new tones...

I never liked the edge mode on ch 2 for the first year or so. Lately, my band has been playing songs that need a sharper crunch or a broken clean sound and I've been using ch. 2 in edge mode extensively. I have noticed that in our practice recordings, edge cuts better and sits better with the...

BB Preamp with a Mark V?

My BB stays on almost all of the time. Usually gain at about 9 oclock or less - adds fantastic color to ch. 1 and 2. Some insane singing tones with Mk I or Mk II modes. Love it. Sorta gives me a 5 channel amp with the differences it makes on ch1 and ch2. Don't use the tone controls too...

Mark V impressions after 2 weeks.

Sounds like you have a ton of Boogie experience so this may not be too helpful (I'm only a recent convert but I've been over the moon for months :) ) I've had my MV combo for about 6 months and it does seem to be opening up after playing at gigs and practice levels (20 practices, 8 gigs). To...
