    My 89' Studio .22 combo

Absolutely. I LOVE mine, especially with the lead drive mod.

Studio Preamp... similar sound to what combo?

The preamp in the Studio 22+ is pretty much identical to the Studio Preamp except for Studio Preamp's Lead Drive control, which can be added to the 22+ quite easily.

    MesaBoogie Studio 22

Most good sounding EL84-based amps run very hot. You could fry an egg on my old AC30. Never had a problem with my Studio 22+ and have gigged regularly with it for several years. Output tubes need to be changed every couple of years - that's the nature of the beast. Lead drive mod is very useful...

    Studio 22+

As stated, you need to lift the PCB up away from the chassis before you can replace the pot, and to do this you will have to unsolder a couple of leads from the back of the PCB. Easy enough once you've done it a couple of times but it took a bit of figuring out the first time I did it. As...

Mesa Boogie Studio 22 mod problem or not?

I didn't like the lack of bass in my Studio 22+ in Lead mode so I changed C5 (which is the coupling cap that links V1 to V2) to .022uf as I found the stock .001uf cap made the Lead mode too thin. I've done the gain mod to mine and yes, in Lead mode all four volume/gain controls are interactive...

    DC-5 pull boost mod

I did that mod to my DC-5 and the difference in volume means it is totally unusable. It's easy enough to do, any amp tech would be able to do it. It's just a question of connecting to the contacts on the pull switch and bringing them out to a socket. But really.... don't bother.

    Studio 22

Actually it's the other way round. C5 is an interstage coupling cap that joins V1 to V2. The purpose of a coupling cap is to block DC while allowing AC (your guitar signal) to pass. Small caps only allow the higher frequencies through. The bigger the cap the broader the frequency band. So my new...

    Mod Kits for Mesa Amps????

If you look at the schematics for the Studio 22 and 22+ (available on the schematic heaven site) you can see by the differences how they added the Lead Level pot.

    Studio 22

Here's the Lead Drive Mod: As I've said in other threads, I've done it and I really like it. I've also changed C5 to .022uf as I found the stock .001uf cap made the Lead mode too thin sounding and I wanted some more bass. At the moment the pot is mounted on the rear the way Mesa do it (but...

    Studio 22+

I've done the Lead Drive mod and highly recommend it. Disassembly isn't so bad, just takes a while - you need to undo all the pots and unsolder the two leads on the back of the board that go to the reverb pan, then the board hinges up off the stand-offs enough for access to the track side. You...

Improving the Studio .22 clean tone

I have a 12AY7 in the V1 position in my Studio .22+ and it works very well. I also did the Lead Drive mod which is very worthwhile. And I changed the V1/V2 interstage coupling cap C5 from .001uF to .022uF which improved the bass response a lot in the lead mode, which I found a bit to too thin...

Improving the Studio .22 clean tone

V1 is only switched in when lead mode is engaged. V2 is the first tube in the chain in clean mode.

Studio 22+ Bass Control Not Working

I was finding the lead channel just a bit too overdriven so I tried the Lead Drive mod. WOW! It adds a whole new level of controllability to the lead channel. I notice that the coupling cap from V1 to V2 is .001uf. The Lead Drive mod is basically just adding the lead drive pot that's in the...

Studio 22+ Bass Control Not Working

C41 was short-circuit. Not too difficult, the way to do it is to undo all the pots then the board lifts right up. I thought I'd better post that, cos I knew by the volume of replies that you were all on the edges of your seats :P  I LOVE this little combo. Now the tone stack is...

Studio 22+ Bass Control Not Working

Hi, this is my first post (long time lurker) so firstly I'd like to say "Hello!" and thanks to the mods for providing such a great resource for Mesa-Boogie owners. I'm a long-time DC-5 owner, been gigging with mine for over 15 years and absolutely love it to death. I recently purchased a 22+...
