front of amp or FX loop?

If an amp has a good effects loop I use it for Delay and Reverb , Swishy effects :) because those effects stay clean. On my Non effects loop amps a really good multi effect pedal ( Line 6 HXFX or TC Electronics Nova system for me ) works best you can play with signal routing to keep you drives...

Mark V with 6CA7 or EL34? Any opinions if you tried them

EL34s for me - to my ear it made the MKV sound more classic Mesa , like my MK2 in feel Channel 1 - its fine I don't use it much I do agree with many the 6L6s do work better on this channel but I do have a nice clean - edge of crunch dialed in Channel 2 - I use the MK1 mode and I just LOVE it...

Low Frequency Distortion in Chanel 1?

I have the low end set really LOW ( old school boogie settings ) on my MKV on the clean channel ( 2 or 3 ) keeps the bottom end nice and tight and lately I have been using the preset EQ rolled in some.

Upgrading from Mark V 25 to Mark V

I was more than content with my MKIIb that I had for 30+ years , went with a friend to try out the MKV 25 and 35 , the 35 was really something special for me, I was all set to buy then a used MKV 90 dropped in my lap for a killer trade and I could not be happier. I use all the different setting...

    Footswitch Issues

I have had issues with my foot switch also. you can make it better the ground tab on the amp there is a mod and this helps along with stress relieving the cable. Much better for me after doing this. http://www.dirtyhurricane.com/gear/Mesa_FTSW_FIX.pdf

    Mark V distasteful overdriven buzz

There is a whole thread about "ice pick gain' on the MKV some change V4 with a 12 AT7 instead of the AX7 , I changed the power tubes to EL34 as to my ear it reacted more like my old Boogies. It does sound like you have the presence set to high

Mark V as a low volume practice rig

I don't bother with 10 watt mode, the master volume is excellent like others have said. I like the clean at 45 watt and channel 2 MK1 also at 45 watt and channel 3 MK4 at 90 watt EL34s in Veri power mode practice at a low talking level. ( 60db ) Sounds something like this Dirty...

Looking for a dual overdrive to do this.

I made some pedals that really worked well with my MKII I made several dual ODs that might fit your bill or I had a single unit ( Niagara ) that can do anything. Don't make them much anymore but I do have some left if your interested. These are demos I had made :)...

LOWER GAIN preamp tubes for Mark V?

I find the EL34 power tubes in mine make it more classic and controllable for me.

Looking for a tone not sure how to describe

Try turning the presence control down for a start. Also a bigger ( deeper ) cab can really help smooth things out with gain
