I just repaired a B52 combo that had one tube with heaters on but no blue glow. Threw my bias probe on it and it wasn't passing any plate current. An open screen grid resistor was the culprit. Replaced not of.the "cinder block" grid resistors with quality resistors.from the tube depot and it was...
OK, after playing the crap out of these JJ 6CA7 all weekend at different volumes and bias settings I have come to one conclusion. All the money I have spent on power tubes in the last few years has been wasted. Everything from EL34 up to 6550, these blow them all way. I honestly can't see myself...
Finally.....more dudes on the same "gear = tone/hands = technique" page as me. Granted, that there is a point where the playing is so bad that the gear sounds like ****.
Being as I run a Triple Rec and 2 cabs at home, and don't need to crank the snot out of it to sound good, yes you can easily use that at home if you tweak it accordingly. Both with tubes and settings. If I put all the stock tubes back in my amp then I have to rattle the walls before it even...
I can sympathize with you on that one brother. I got =C= 6L6GC for my triple because everyone said were the be-all-end-all of power tubes. My thoughts? They actually charge that much for these? WHY???? I couldn't get a decent gain tone out of them at all. Cleans were good, but that's it. I sold...
For paying a tech to replace screen grid resistors on an amp the has the tube sockets on a PCB that needs to be romoved to do the job like on 5150s and Rectifiers?
Crap yeah that would help wouldn't it. Its actually two amps in a stereo rig...a 3ch dual and a 6505. He made custom front grilles for both amps so you can see.through to the tubes.
I got some work to do on a guy's amp and while I'm in there he wants colored LEDs shining behind his power tubes like ENGL amps do. Where to draw power from in the amp that is not in the signal path?
