I upgraded my combo and identical 2x12 vertical half back cab to wicker.
You can get identical to mesa wicker cane/rattan from furniture shops on rolls.
For the cab, i removed the metal grill made nade a simple scrap wood frame to sit inside that I stapled the wicker to. Then put it back.
If...
Make it... done it for my MKiii and mesa Metal grille front stack.
The wicker material is available easily online on rolls, used for chair seats, etc.
Remove the current grille. I then made a copy of the wood frame in ply, soaked the wicker for a while and then stretched and stapled it to...
I put an inline switch on mine for silencing the fan when recording.
It can get a really hot chassis on a long gig in a warm venue. You can’t hear the fan in a stage situation, but I’ve considered updating the 30 odd year old original to a modern quieter one.
mesa cleans are as good as anything.. lot of range on the controls, esp. the treble.
I can dial in any clean sound could want with my MKIII. It is an out and out professional muso’s amp.
The default reverb level in a MKiii is very low.
Def. try using the foot switch.
I also did the reverb level mod (super simple) that increases the relative volume of the reverb sound. I can go all Dick Dale now.
There is a black wire that comes from the PCB that terminates on one of the fx...
I regularly use a TC HOF reverb as a pedal. It has a ‘toneprint’ editor which lets you tweak the reverbs to dial out that silly, splashy surf sound. The TC mini HOF has just one dial.
Although at the moment my Mark III loop is going through a Lexicon MX200 rack unit which has a range of...
Fuses blow for a reason. So its best to work why out before just replacing the fuse. I did have a power switch fail recently.
Faulty valves are invariably what blow the fuses in my Boogie.
Are the tubes glowing evenly with no hot spots/ hot smells.
Is there a hiss from the speakers when you...
Could just be a bad tube... tried swapping one at a time?
There was a known reverb glitch which caused a slight distortion in the background of my Purple Stripe at any clean setting if reverb was used. Mesa sent me a note with a fix - an extra earth connection. Dont know if the Blue Stripes...
The R2 mod will let you dial in a better rhythm tone mix and to crank the input more to get more grit. A useful mod.
I use an MXR Microamp to boost R2. Goes from warm to blazing. Best solder free mod is a nice clean boost.
My Purple Stripe also has a mod to increase the reverb depth and to...
The R2 level mod is relatively simple and makes the MKiii amp far more usable as a three channel amp. By far the best and most practical mod I’ve made to any amp. Lets you dial in the channel levels perfectly and its usually set and forget.
i did a ‘reverb glitch fix’ too to tackle some slight...
There is an easy mod to greatly increase the reverb depth. The stock reverb level is very low on a mkiii
I got details sent by Mesa.
Basically it adds a resistor in line with the black lead that comes from the PCB to one of the fx loop sockets.
Have you checked that it works with a...
For loud gigs when I need to get over everything for a solo I use an MXR microamp in the loop of my MK3. It's a true volume boost for solos rather than just more gain. Very effective trick if running in full 75w mode. Not had any problems. Id try to avoid cutting the loop signal, but it should...
Some ideas...
Check and clean all the RCA cables and sockets
Check that it is the right tube or type. I think i read here it's meant to be a 12AT7 in V4 not a 12AX7 in a MK4A and check that the tube is good.
Check that the reverb tank cables are not reversed/in the the wrong sockets. The...
