    Price check, mark IIc+

More info, this is a 60W combo, with a reverb, but no GEQ. No mods as far as I know. Location in USA.

    Price check, mark IIc+

What is a fair price to sell a Mark IIC+ with no GEQ, black tolex, in good condition? Thanks.

    JJ EL844 tubes in a DC-3

gibsonboogie, Yes, I agree. The worst thing that can happen is that I would need to order a new set of EL-84's if the EL-844's didn't have enough power. And that wouldn't be the end of the world. If I had a DC-2 with only 2 power tubes, then I would be more concerned about headroom. But...

    JJ EL844 tubes in a DC-3

I don't play that loud. With stock EL84s, I have way more headroom than I would ever need. On the clean channel, if I have the gain and master both at 5, there's no way I can turn the Output past 2 without blowing out the windows, or everybody's ears. With EL844s, do you think I could set...

    JJ EL844 tubes in a DC-3

gibsonboogie, How is the affect on the headroom on the clean channel? I got an email reply from Eurotubes that the EL844's are not a good choice if I still want a clean sound at a moderate to high volume. They said that the tubes would start to break up at a significantly lower volume. I...

    PSA- DC-3 bias mod

But what I'm trying to say, is heat buildup the "only" issue here with regard to tube life? Is there something else about the bias mod that extends tube life? Because the way that my fan is setup, there isn't much heat buildup. It's way cooler than it was. Is it possible that even with good...

    PSA- DC-3 bias mod

But if I have a cooling fan installed (with no bias mod), will that also extend the life of my tubes?

    PSA- DC-3 bias mod

Please help me understand this mod. What exactly is the problem with the original design. Why is a -11VDC bias "bad"? Is this strictly a high temperature issue, or are there other problems? Why does the original design cause this problem? How does the mod fix the problem? I don't have...

    Santana's sound on Europa?

Santana has two basic sounds on Europa. I can pretty much nail the main overdrive sound with my DC-3 and nothing else. But there is also softer phased or tremolo sound on the 3rd and 5th verse. It sounds a lot like a keyboard. Could that be a Leslie? How can I duplicate that sound?

    Adding a fan to a DC-3

OK so I finally installed a fan on my DC-3, and it worked out very well. I found a 3" 120 VAC fan and I attached it to the back board of the cabinet so that it blows upward. I attached it with industrial strength velcro and a disconnect plug, so that it can be removed easily if needed. It...

    Adding a fan to a DC-3

What is the cleanest way to add a fan to a DC-3 combo? I suppose it wouldn't be hard to splice into the AC power after the AC receptacle, then add a new power cord with an in-line switch, then a 120VAC fan. Is there an adaptor available to plug into the AC receptacle, then plug in the main...

    Volume Mod Question

I started a technical thread about the volume mod a few months back: http://www.forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=41542&p=298685#p298685 Basically, my theory is that if your output pot is 100kL, then removing the 220k resistor can't possibly have any affect on the tone, it will only...

    unloading your amps capacitors

I wouldn't use an air compressor. Use a can of electronics spray duster. But if you want to use an air compressor, don't get the nozzle too close and you should be fine. Just don't touch any of the components and you won't get shocked. If you leave the standby switch on after you turn off...

    Volume mod technical discussion....

Lockbody, But which type of output pot do you have? 100kL or 1MA? The schematic for the DC-5 shows a 1MA (one MegaOhm audio taper). If you have the 1MA pot, then the 220k Ohm resistor would be important to maintain the tube bias. If the 220k Ohm resistor is removed, then the circuit has to...

    Volume mod technical discussion....

Check the markings on the output pot. Is it the 100kL or the 1MA? Maybe some DC-5's are setup like the schematic for the DC-3 with a 100kL pot and those sound OK. I know some other people with a DC-5 have reported that they have no problems with the volume mod. Maybe the mod works for the...
