    Roadster chassis removal

Yes it’s a combo. The effin screw screwed me around quite some. Never seen that before! Love life’s learnings though ;)

    Roadster Fan Replacement before/after Video

I find most tube amps easy to work on, biggest challenge is good support for the chassis and handling the weight. And if combo remember that chassis tension screw behind the power tubes. The fan I replaced was full of dust and ‘very’ noisy. That said at the time I had no frame of reference. My...

Loss of bass in dual rectifier 100watts

I second that. And clean the tube pins/sockets and the 6.5mm sockets too while you're at it.

Loss of bass in dual rectifier 100watts

I think my rectifiers sound rad at living room volumes, much better than some other amps I had that indeed only sounded decent when loud (sold 'em all). Not saying that they don't sound just as good on stage, just that that's not what I'm hearing every day, and I very much like what I hear.

Loss of bass in dual rectifier 100watts

There is a persistent myth that Rectos need to be loud to sound good. Not so. My Single (series 1) and Dual (three channel) sound lovely (with more than enough bass if I dial it up) at living room volume through 412, and both my Roadster 2 x 12 combos (one 6L6 the other EL34) are just as lovely...

    Roadster chassis removal

I take all amp chassis out when I buy (used). That’s to check caps etc for obvious damage, burn marks etc. caught a few on the blink items that way before they caused mayhem. Not in my roadsters though. They are as good as the day they were made. One thing of note is before you pull the cassis...

Where would one go to to test old tubes to see if they are still good?

I recently acquired a quad of EL34s one of which tested dud (heater open circuit). I scrubbed the pins with DeOxit and it brought the EL34 back. The pins looked allright, and I couldn't believe the dirt that came off the pins after leaving some DeOxit Red on them for a few minutes. Just shows...

Single Rectifier Series 1 vs Roadster 2x12 combo - A tale of two amps

Hi Bandit - thanks for the detailed write-up! That track sounds great. Keep up the drumming. If anything, the workout will save you a gym membership... Is there a self-help group for gear junkies? Anyway, I went out and bought another Roadster, 'cause I found one in good condition for good...

Road King II - “All the things you are”

Some shenanigans by the designer. My Roadster has “Dis a fine auto“ on the PCB…

Single Rectifier Series 1 vs Roadster 2x12 combo - A tale of two amps

Took forever indeed! Glad you got it back and it’s working. The cost seems OK, particularly since it was undamaged in transport - always my greatest worry when shipping an amp. For comparison I sent a 6505 from Melbourne to Perth some years back and that cost about US$200 one way.

Single Rectifier Series 1 vs Roadster 2x12 combo - A tale of two amps

Well, the symptom seems quite drastic, surely they’d be able to identify the cause. Have they told you what went wrong? I’d be keen to know. Mine makes an ungodly crack when flicking to ch3 for the first time like some capacitor unloading into the circuit. Maybe that’s finally got the better of...

Single Rectifier Series 1 vs Roadster 2x12 combo - A tale of two amps

Wow. Whats wrong with it? What’s their excuse for taking so long?

    New Amp Day !

Chiming in for the Roadster Lovefest! Mine's a Roadster 2 x 12 combo. What a brawler! The Bareknuckle Warpigs push the Roadster nicely. Haven't even tried a boost yet. What settings do you use on the SD-1? @spawnofthesith - That's some heavy lifting. Now a photo of the Roadster on top of a full...
