Bold, diodes, EL34 tubes. That'll sound good.

I had success with Tung Sol reissues and JJ's in the preamp. Power tubes won't matter as much, but the 450's will sound better.

Mesa certainly has quality, don't worry. There was a release about using Chinese branded power tubes in position 3 and 5. I've found that JJ's work fine in those positions as well. I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell you why those 2 spots are temperamental, but maybe this could help. Good luck!

Glad you got it fixed. I too have never had problems, but I was starting to worry when I would. Now I know what to do in case it happens later.

The cab makes all the difference. The Ace through a 212, in my experience,is a totally different animal, meaning great palm mute metal sounds. I want to try the Deuce, which would probably add some more oomph.
