JP2C not what I expected - tube issue?

Just to followup on this thread, I since bought a 2019 Majesty, and the JP2C sounds quite a bit better when paired with that vs. my 2005 (or so) JP6. I was surprised at the difference. Maybe some combination of the Majesty pickups having a hotter output (though I was using an overdrive with...

Worth swapping Rev G for Multi-Watt?

Thanks. It’d be really great to see a comparison vid, if you get around to it. I guess my main concern is whether there’s some magic about the Rev G that I would lose with the multi-watt. I probably value the ability to get a couple of magical tones more than I value versatility. So I gather I...

Worth swapping Rev G for Multi-Watt?

I have a Dual Recto Rev G that I've had for 20+ years. I'm still very happy with it, but am wondering whether it might be worth selling it in favor of a multi-watt. I've heard youtube clips comparing the two, although hearing a clip is obviously very different than actually playing through the...

JP2C not what I expected - tube issue?

Great sound, richprice! I've become more familiar with the amp, and it now sounds god-like. Aside for swapping out the power tubes, tweaking the "drag" control on my Radial splitter seemed to make a difference, plus I realized that the Treble knob has a huge influence on gain. I'm running it...

JP2C not what I expected - tube issue?

richprice79, I'm currently travelling but I'll try to see if I can put something up when I'm back. Would be good if we could compare with identical settings. One thing I'll say is that I have a new appreciation for the Axe FX 3 -- the JP2C model seems closer to the real thing than I would have...

JP2C not what I expected - tube issue?

Ok yeah, I think it was the tubes. Been playing some more and I like what I'm hearing!

JP2C not what I expected - tube issue?

I didn't have a chance to get new tubes, though I swapped out the power tubes with the ones in my dual recto (which aren't new, but which should still have plenty of life left in them). That seems to have made a significant difference. I probably still need to have the gain at upwards of 3...

JP2C not what I expected - tube issue?

I have the same issues with both channels 2 and 3. And guitar-wise, I'm using an early JP6 and an older JEM... so I would think the pickups are hot enough. I think I'll just have to do the obvious, and swap out the tubes to see if that changes anything. Maybe the Mark IV is just better suited...

JP2C not what I expected - tube issue?

I just bought a JP2C, and it's quite different from what I was expecting (not in a good way). It was a store floor model, and I'm wondering if I need to swap out some tubes. When I try the "instant gratification" settings, or have the gain in channel 2 or 3 at anything less than 3 o'clock...

Couldn't they have released the Mark V last year, when the C$/US$ exchange rate was still at par?? Grrr....

The Joy of Running Two Amps at Once

Make sure you're using a high-quality A/B box -- I've got the ToneBone Radial JX2, it works great. It's got a ground loop switch, you flip it & the hum is gone. My setup is guitar -> A/B box -> Mark IV and Dual Recto. Mark IV goes into a Sequis Motherload speaker sim; Dual Recto goes into a...

Dual recto sounding anemic after tube swap

You were right -- that was the problem. I put in regular 12AX7s and it's back to normal! Well, I guess I have a lifetime supply of V1 tubes now...!

Dual recto sounding anemic after tube swap

I thought the SPAX7A were less prone to noise than the regular 12AX7s, but otherwise had the same gain characteristics, no? Anyway, I will give that a try. I guess the other possibility is that something other than the tubes is fried, it's a 10-yr old amp...

Dual recto sounding anemic after tube swap

I'll clarify my problem a bit more -- after playing with it for a while longer, it seems the main issue is that the red channel sounds almost indistinguishable from the orange channel (I've made sure the "channel clone" switch is set to the middle)... hence my perception of the red channel...

Dual recto sounding anemic after tube swap

Hi, I was having problems with my Dual Recto & I decided to swap out all the tubes (a lot of them were very old, anyway). I went with all Mesa tubes. For the preamps I put in five of the SPAX7A, not realizing when I bought them that they're really meant for the V1 position (but there's no harm...
