    The Roadster Blues...

    Sell the amp imo

Distortion Pedal with a Dual Rectifier?

Some of the best tones ever recorded were amps (even higher gain ones) boosted with a pedal, perfectly valid tool in the toolbox just imo. Heck I used to boost Uberschall's back in the day along with my Recto's in the 90's. Tried a Metalzone set as a boost in front of my old Roadster head...

Roadster - that Brit mode (channel 2)....

Brit mode on my old Roadster sounded nothing like any Marshall model, just imo. Very frustrating mode, a pedal did help it become a bit more palatable though. Reading the comments about the tweed mode in channel 1 though makes me wish I had experimented with it more before I sold it off. :D

Matching 2X12 cabs to my MkV...

The Roadking 2x12 is pretty cool. I had both a Recto 2x12 and Roadking 2x12 and was able to directly compare. Still have the Roadking 2x12. The Roadking 2x12 is brighter and more complex sounding imo. It still has plenty of thump at least for me. I've used the Roadking 2x12 with...

Mesa Dual/Triple Rectifier vs. Framus Dragon

Don't buy an amp because you respect the company but don't dig it's tone, just imo. It's noble but you have to get whatever tool allows you to get your music out the way you want it to be. Just imo. :)

NEW VIDEO: Dual Vs Triple Rectifier A/B Comparison

Great comparison! The Triple sounds like it's in a higher resolution with more detail. Sort of like the audio equivalent of changing the default resolution of your youtube vid to the highest setting 720p (at least on my pc). A natural extension of that... :D

    Triple rec or Roadster

Just assess your needs and choose the best fit. Roadster has the versatality going for it with the two clean channels and has a more refined, smoother darker tone to the gain channels (at least my old one did). I haven't played a reborn or older 3 channel Triple, but the 2 channel Triple is...

Sell Mesa triple rec 2 channel, buy 3 channel dual rec?

I went from 2 channel Dual --> 3 channel Dual --> Roadster --> 2 channel Triple. Go wherever your ears take you... If I was to get another Recto I would get one of the "reborn" ones, but I would keep my 2 channel.

Mesa Dual Rectifier, not having the "Rectifier" sound in it.

Playing any amp with distortion is a crutch, playing unplugged clean is the most brag worthy.

Mesa Dual Rectifier, not having the "Rectifier" sound in it.

Recto's love boosts/overdrives, it's just another option. Coloring the tone might be the intention in addition to providing a boost to the signal. In fact OD-9 boosted Recto tones can be found on some pretty popular albums.

Mesa Dual Rectifier, not having the "Rectifier" sound in it.

Boost it with a Boss Metal Zone, instant death metal tone seriously. :D

Plenty of good choices out there. :D

Dual Rev F Blacface: Confessions of a Hystrionic Guitarist.

Boosted Recto's produce just as legendary a sound as boosted JCM 800's imo. Sometimes you just need a little more pushing the front end. In fact I prefer a boosted amp with less overall gain (or gain turned down) to a higher gain amp with all the gain built in or wound up, it's more...

    Replaceing the Triple....help me decide

Not a high gain amp, but a JCM 800 with a boost pedal sounds awesome mixed with a Rectifier imo.

    Dual vs Triple

Everyone will tell you that everything is the same except for the amount of tubes, and technically that may be true. But even at lower volumes Triples just sound meaner and a little tighter to me, and possibly a tad brighter. Compare them yourself, you can't convey the way the amps feel...
