To keep up with the "heat" of the 500XL.. I'd go with a super thick neck with strong output (Black Winter, Sentient; etc).. You don't need to worry about the fonts matching up between the pickups.. so the Old English font of the Black Winter could be cool.
Another great option is the Alt8...
I've owned both. IMO the MarkIV is the best "tone tweaker" amp... SO many tonal shaping options.. So I'm saying buy whichever one is cheaper and you'll be able to dial in that sound you're looking for!
Word. I've seen that. I'm just sayin that it's like Mesa Boogie is almost "erasing" the existence of this amp for some reason... and IMHO... It's one of the top 2 or 3 amps they've EVER made!!!
I don't see any history of the models; etc anywhere even under discontinued models...
I've tried Googling it.. but really nothing.
The reasons I ask.. I have owned a few Boogies over the years.. And my DC-5 still blows me away every time I come back to it!!
Is there a way to get a more "Fender-ish" clean on the clean channel??
Maybe put some different tube configuration in the pre-amp section?? (I don't know the valve placement on the Stilettos .. what's V1, V2; etc.....
Thanks!!!
My Mesa DC-5 sounds amazing through everything I've run it through...
I really like it through a 2X12 with Scumbacks...
But it REALLY booms through my Marshall 4X12's....
