BTW - how much trouble am I risking running Mesa EL34 in outside sockets and 6L6 inside (VARIAC power,90W.) I know it used to be allowed on the amp but apparently no longer...
I did it today after trying 4xEL34 (too classic and affects low end in a weird way)...and it sounds great! \m/
Virtually identical to teh way I have mine dialed, except I tend to use the EQ (PRESET) and VARIAC:
Mark I
EQ preset
90W
Thick on
G 12:00
M 11:30
P 1:30
T 2:00
M 10:00
B 8:30
Effects loop On 12:00
Master Volume 9:30
VARIAC
I have a Combo running in tandem with the wide body 1x12 and I think...
FWIW I found my best tone with an external cab, added the matching Mesa Widebody 1x12 to get the best of both worlds out of my MkV combo.....now it's not completely embarrassed by the JP2C.
Yeah, not quite doing it for me...by current solution was a second cab (Mesa Widebody 1x12)....but I'd still like the option to add a cap or shift for the iiC+ mode.
I just shelled out the cash for MESA STR-441s (short bottle 6L6GC) and the change is quite dramatic. Amp probably should have shipped with these.
I'm not yet sold on the 12at7 but testing is further complicated because I have a combo and my ears are not attuned to open back cabs.
v4 and v6 were stated.
Note: you could also use a 5751 or similar for v7 - the Phase Inverter. I have had good success with Jan/GE 5751 in PI of other amps.
Interesting thread but not sure why we just can’t admit the IIc channel on this amp needs work...
The JP2C is just instant tone, the MkIV too...this just doesn’t have the balls of that base tone... it’s weak in the mode on Ch3 and just a bit odd one the Extreme mode.
I spent a lot of time...
I searched the forum but could not find an answer two problems:
1, EQ on/off
a) If I set EQ switches to MD (MIDI or FTSW) control, should the amp remember whether the EQ is on or off after switching back and forth say from ch2 to ch3?
b) If I set EQ switches to specific EQ (1 or 2) control...
