Odd Design Choices: Why is Mark IV Volume Pot so Sensitive?

I think it's because these amps were designed during a period when louder = gooder.

Trying to replace tubes in my Mesa Boogie(first timer)

The tubes you got should be fine, hopefully you bought them as a matched set. Just make sure you line up the plastic guide notch on the tube with the notch in the socket, and you should be good to go.

Mesa Boogie Mark IV - very less overdrive in first channel

I just noticed that he said those are Fishman Fluence (active) pickups in that PRS, so that is probably contributing to him getting the R1 to break up like that.

Mesa Boogie Mark IV - very less overdrive in first channel

Did you try setting the amp like it is in that video you posted? The R1 gain, R1 treble, and R1 presence can all add gain to that channel, based on their settings. Looks like has has it set like this: R1 Gain: 10, pulled R1 Treble: 6.5 R1 Presence: 5 Plus it doesn't break up much until he...

Messa Boogie Studio .22 Tube Layout

Are the preamp tubes you have all the same? If they are then it doesn't really matter what socket they go into. If you got a 'balanced' tube for the phase inverter, that needs to go into the V5 socket, which is the farthest one for the input jack.

Mark IVA loop feedback issue, eq led. Are my LDRs going?

For the loop, did you try cleaning the jacks? That would be a good thing to try. With the front LED(s) if I remember correctly there's a crimp on the legs, and sometimes those loosen up.

What does the F100 sound like? Is it like a MK series ?

It's nothing like a Mark. I have an F-50 combo and primarily just use the clean channel as a pedal platform. The drive channel is decent, but no where near as good as my Mark IV.

So is anybody using E34L or KT77 with Mark IV?

I've got the KT-77's in my MKIV right now, and no problems so far. I don't like them as much as the E34L's. There's definitely more bottom end from the amp (actually too much IMHO) and the amp doesn't really sound as focused. Still a good quality tube, but I'll be going back to the E34L / 6L6 setup.
