You'll get whatever tone you want from this amp, might take some patience to get there if you're new to mesa. They're dialed in a lot differently than marshals. Yes it'll cut through the mix. Not an issue. If anything it'll cut through too well and you'll have to back off.

Find an authorized tech in your area? Also +1 on changing the rec tube if you haven't..

The mark series is great at low volumes. Head + cab sounds a lot better, mainly the bass response is a LOT tighter than the combo. Really tho just go test them all out!!

Dude put a better cab with the 4. Channel three on that sucker is one of the best lead channels in existence. Trading it for a marshal and/or Peavy is sacralidge. You'll be a LOT happier pushing air thru a nicer cab with the 4.

The only problem with the amp is that they named everything after previous models, so naturally people complained it wasn't exactly like the 2c, m4 etc... They should have marketed it as a stand alone, next version in the series and it would have been received much more positively in the start...
